Earlier this week the Minnesota Timberwolves signed Luol Dang after he was bought of his contract by the Los Angeles Lakers. This reunited Dang with coach Tom Thibodeau, who coached him in Chicago. He will also be reunited with former teammates, Jimmy Butler, Taj Gibson, and Derrick Rose.
Speaking of Derrick Rose, the former MVP recently signed a one-year deal worth 2.3 million dollars. Rose was the topic of discussion between former Timberwolves’ Power forward and future Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett, and Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson The host of the Scoop B Radio podcast.
Robinson asked Garnett if he would start Derrick Rose at the one next season in Minnesota:
“Yeah, I would,” Garnett told Robinson. He would continue “It’s D-Rose,” he said.
“You know, you get older, but the knowledge doesn’t go anywhere. He’s more crafty now than ever in the pick-and-roll. He’s able to get shots for guys, and he’s able to knock shots down, so yeah, I would.”
Since Rose became the youngest player to win the NBA’s regular season MVP award in 2011, he has been plagued by injuries. Even had him thinking about possibly contemplating retirement in 2017, as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers. At one point he was noncommunicative to multiple people within in his circle, and within the Cavaliers personal.
“He’s tired of being hurt, and it’s taking a toll on him mentally.” A team source told ESPN
Rose is still just 29 years of age and if he stays health still has a lot to offer as an athlete. High Flyers such as Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, Vince Carter, LeBron James to name a few have all figured out a way to adjust their games in the ladder part of their careers to try to avoid all the wear and tear on their bodies.
Rose can still use his speed to get in the lane for mid-range shots, floaters and layups if they are there, but rely on his jump shot to help save his legs.
“He’s still as fast as any guard out there. He would have some practices where he’d just dominate and get to the lane at will, hit shots, hit mid-range shots and floaters, all the reasons people love him. And he can do all those things. He would just run back so nonchalant like I could do this whenever I want. He didn’t say that, but his play was so easy for him, so I think that’s something he’s going to show more this year, and people will be pleasantly surprised,” said the Big Ticket.
