The hip-hop community is still captivated by the buzz surrounding Kendrick Lamar’s unexpected album GNX, with Lamar’s provocative lyrics sparking discussion. In the opening track, ‘Wacced Out Murals,’ Lamar teases that his hard work may have failed to impress rap legend Lil Wayne. Wack 100, an industry veteran, provided his take on the perceived dynamics between Lamar and Wayne, sparking a series of reactions.
“Now here’s the thing, it’s one thing if Wayne was assigned to the Super Bowl already, then I would say he got robbed, but nobody was assigned to the Super Bowl. Kendrick Lamar can’t outsell Lil Weezy, he can’t out-rap Lil Weezy. He’s a man, I—I believe Wayne just takes the high road right now.”
Wack 100 asserted that Lamar is intentionally making subtle provocations, including the line aimed at Wayne, to provoke reactions and fuel future projects. He speculated that Lamar’s album might be part of a larger marketing strategy. His releases could be fueled by these provocative lyrics, particularly with the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show approaching.
“I think what he’s doing is, he didn’t send a few little things out there, and he wants to get one or two of these individuals to say something. I think he’s putting something out there because he knows something needed to come,” Wack continued. “He got the Super Bowl coming, and the fact that his 12 songs are too simple for Kendrick, and he knows it’s gonna get him through the holidays. He’s trying to see if one or two of these dudes he didn’t say something about is gonna bite, and then he’s gonna use that situation to drive the next album.”
Wack expressed his concern about Wayne’s response to Kendrick’s remarks, urging the New Orleans legend not to engage in a back-and-forth. He pointed out Wayne’s potential humility, which suggests that the rapper is not currently in the mood for a lyrical battle.
“I don’t think Wayne should do that right now because I don’t believe Wayne is really in that state of mind. I don’t think he’s in trip mode,” Wack said. “He feels some kind of way about the Super Bowl, but I don’t think it’s at Kendrick. But then, you know, him not acknowledging that kind of made it worse. Yeah, made Kendrick say, ‘Okay, what’s going on with that?’ But I don’t think he’s in trip mode. Kendrick’s in trip mode, bro.”
Lil Wayne’s response to Kendrick’s line has been equally remarkable. Wayne posted on social media to express his confusion after Lamar’s album was released. On November 23, Wayne posted on X (formerly Twitter) at 4 AM, “Man wtf I do?! I just be chillin & dey still kome 4 my head. Let’s not take kindness for weakness. Let this giant sleep. I beg u all. No one really wants destruction, not even me but I shall destroy if disturbed. On me. Love.”
Given the deep respect both artists hold for one another, it seems that Wayne’s cryptic message expresses his surprise and frustration at being called out by Lamar. The origins of this tension stretch beyond Lamar’s recent album. Wayne personally took Kendrick’s announcement as the 2025 Super Bowl performer. Being from New Orleans, it was his expectation to be chosen as the artist, and he openly shared his disappointment in not being given the chance.
“It made me feel like shit, not getting this opportunity, and when I felt like shit, you guys reminded me that I ain’t shit without y’all,” Wayne admitted in an Instagram video shortly after the Super Bowl announcement.
The relationship between Kendrick Lamar and Lil Wayne, both of whom have achieved legendary careers in hip-hop, was highlighted by Wack 100 in his comments. The unspoken rivalry between two of the genre’s titans is highlighted by Lamar’s line in Wacched Out Murals, which may have been meant to spark conversation.
Wayne’s response to Kendrick’s challenges is still uncertain as both artists continue to shape the culture.
If their relationship will develop further in the upcoming months, particularly with the Super Bowl and new music on the horizon. It’s clear that this isn’t over yet.
