Naughton remarked on Tasha’s journey as ‘ever-evolving’ as she celebrated 10 years since the original Power series premiered.

Actress Naturi Naughton, in an exclusive interview with Nick Hamilton of Nitecast Media, discussed her unforgettable time playing Tasha St. Patrick, the star of the hit Starz series Power, discusses her evolution as a performer and what it means to be part of a franchise that has defined a decade of storytelling in urban television. Naughton remarked on Tasha’s journey as ‘ever-evolving’ as she celebrated 10 years since the original Power series premiered.

Throughout six seasons of Power and Power Book II: Ghost, Tasha transformed from an underestimated wife to a fiercely independent mother and protector, displaying a complexity rarely seen in Black female leads on television.
“You might have thought you knew her,” Naughton said, “but by season six, you were like, ‘Whoa, this woman is a bad mama jama.’”

Tasha, Ghost, and Angela: A Power Triangle

The show’s most compelling storyline was the tangled dynamics between Tasha, Ghost (Omari Hardwick), and Angela (Lela Loren), which Hamilton explored. Naughton laughed and confessed when asked if Tasha had a hidden wish for Angela’s departure.

“I don’t wish no death upon me, but she had to go.”
The tension in the love triangle highlighted the series’ most emotionally charged moments, which showcased Tasha’s depth beyond being a scorned wife. Naughton made it clear that she was proud of bringing that emotional nuance to life.

On Working with 50 Cent

Naughton praised 50 Cent’s vision and support when asked about working with Power executive producer and rapper.

“He definitely pushes people’s buttons,” she said with a smile, “but at the end of the day, it was all love.”

She praises 50 Cent for his dedication to telling real, gritty, urban stories on television and recognizes how his presence elevated the show and her own performance.

“I think what he has done is really like changing the culture in a lot of ways,” she added.

The Power Universe and Power Book II

Hamilton mentions the tension between Tasha and Tommy (portrayed by Joseph Sikora), particularly after the events in Power Book II: Ghost. Although Naughton acknowledged the richness of the storyline, she believed that her character had plenty of material to chew on during her time in the original series.

“I feel like Power had a lot of meat on the bones,” she said. “But Power Book II definitely gave you a chance to see the younger side—Tariq’s generation.”

Naughton praised show creator Courtney Kemp and the writing team, calling the franchise’s success ‘incredible.’ He also acknowledged how uncommon it is for a show to maintain this level of impact after a decade.

The Future: Tasha, Tommy, and What’s Next

As Power Book IV: Force begins its final season, there is much speculation regarding a six-month time jump and a mysterious phone call made by Tariq. Fans are questioning if family ties will bring the remaining characters back together. Naughton did not confirm anything directly, but she left fans hopeful.

“I ain’t dead yet, so there’s always a possibility,” she teased. “And Tommy—you know he always pops up somewhere. I think family is forever.”

A Decade of Legacy

Naturi Naughton believes that the Power Universe is not only about crime, betrayal, and survival but also about legacy, resilience, and the depth of Black storytelling. Looking back on 10 transformative years, it’s evident that she’s satisfied with what Power has accomplished and optimistic about what the universe may still explore. Naughton’s performance was memorable for fans, from watching Tasha rise through heartbreak and betrayal to shaping a franchise that redefined cable television.
