Lakers forward Anthony Davis spent his first six seasons [2013 -2019] in New Orleans as a member of the New Orleans Pelicans before being traded to the Lakers this past summer.

During Anthony Davis’ time there, he caught the eye of New Orleans legend, a member of the No Limit Soldiers, Silkk The Shocker, who was always at Pelican games when Davis was there. Shocker was recently on Heavy On Lakers’ Live with Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson and share what it was like to see him develop.

“Anthony [Davis] I watched his development, I knew he would be good, but I didn’t realize, that he would be that good. I did realize that he has all the attributes to be great. I just didn’t realize how in tune he is to getting better. Most people just settle on oh I’m this good. Like with LeBron [James], KD[ Kevin Durant], Paul George, people like that they are not settling. They are not meant to be just okay,” said Shockers.

“So, AD [mindset is like] what do I need to work on, oh my free-throws, I need to go shoot a thousand free-throws, I need to get big in need to be in the gym training. You, gotta have those attributes as well, he’s 6’11, block shots, good free-throw shooter, now he score now, and explosive… That was dope to see him gradually grow and put on for the city.”

This season, AD is averaging 26.4 points, 9.4 rebounds, a career-high in assists with 3.2, 33.8 percent from deep, and 84.7 percent from the free-throw line. He was also recently named a finalist for the Defensive Player of the Year Award.

An award that means a lot to him, and he expressed that in an interview with Yahoo’s Chris Haynes earlier this year.

“I’m a defensive minded players and so, I think that award means a lot to me than any other award. I don’t think there is many guys that can do what I do defensively, guard one through five. I guarded Russ[ell Westbrook] when we played Houston. Then I can guard a [Nikola] Jokić, and Paul Millsap the other night,” said Davis. “So, I am able to guard multiple positions, I think i’m a great pick and roll defender. We can switch a lot and keep everyone home. If I get switch on a guard, I don’t want any help, I take pride on one on one defense.”

Davis’s head coach recently shared why he feels his player should receive this year’s award.

“Anthony dominates in his own matchup in most cases, but also has the ability to switch out and guard anyone on the floor at any size and be one of the best rim protectors in the game,” Vogel said.  “So that versatility and dominance make him the frontrunner in my book.”

Earlier today, the Lakers lost to the Indiana Pacers 116-111. They have lost the last four out of five games and are in the NBA bubble.
