My LGS, Sci-fi Factory is holding a bracket 3 commander tournament the entire month of March. The winner of the tournament will take home a coveted Chrome Mox card.

“Imprint — When Chrome Mox comes into play, you may remove a nonartifact, nonland card in your hand from the game. (The removed card is imprinted on this artifact.)
T: Add one mana of any of the imprinted card’s colors to your mana pool.
- Rarity:R
- #:152
- Card Type:Artifact
- Casting Cost:0
- Artist:Donato Giancola
- TCGplayer Tip:A throwback to the original Mox cards, which are some of the rarest and most sought-after cards in the game, Chrome Mox is no slouch itself. This card is an extremely effective ramp effect, which can tap for any color at the cost of a single card.
I will be participating in this tournament. Here is my commander and my deck:

I chose Hakbal of the Surging Soul mainly because of the explore ability. Whenever I explore, I look at the top card of my library, reveal it, and I can either put it in my hand or at the bottom of my library. Lands also go directly into my hand. This form of deck manipulation can be proven powerful, especially in a competitive format.
Game Changers:
In order for a deck to be considered a bracket 3, there has to be…you guessed it…3 game changers! Here are my 3 game changers:

I chose these game changers because I believe they work best in my deck for the competitive format I will be participating in. I especially like Fierce Guardian ship so if I have a really good board state, and I do not want to lose that board state (obviously), then I have instant protection (unless some one counters my counter).
Gaea’s Cradle is also immensely useful for when I have several creatures out and want to possibly cast even more creatures, enchantments or sorceries to help elevate my board state.
Here are my creatures I have chosen for this deck. Most of them synergize really well with most of my instants and sorceries, which I will also list below:

All of these creatures have proven value in the deck, however, my top three favorites are Deep Channel Mentor, Herald of the Secret Streams, and Mist Dancer (who doesn’t love flying fish)? While I do have many creatures, I have it built this way for a reason. My commander has the explore ability and the majority of my creatures are merfolk. The idea is to get as many of them out, buff them up with the explore trigger, and swing my big scary fish at everyone. There are other ways for me to buff my merfolk up while exploring.
For example:

There have been a few games I have played in the past where I had out Hardened Scales, Branching Evolution, and Doubling Season. Things got real scary, real fast, but it is so much fun (well, for me at least).
Some other enchantments and sorceries I include as well:

Raise the Palisade has to be one of my favorite cards ever for a tribal deck, especially with merfolk drench in +1/+1 counters. Last March of the Ents was recently added as well. I do hope the card helps me in this upcoming tournament.
And my favorite thing about being a dirty blue player:
Instants:

I cannot wait to compete for the first time in a tournament, even if it just at my LGS, but well all have to start somewhere. I will be doing updates every weekend throughout the tournament month to give updates, so be on the look out!
