Steve Kerr On Draymond Green’s Passing Ability Compared To Other Big Man In NBA History
On Saturday’s 134-132 loss to the Dallas Mavericks, Draymond Green accumulated 15 assists and grabbed six rebounds. Before the g ame, I asked Warriors coach Steve Kerr to rank Green amongst passing big men in NBA history.
“Well, it’s different Draymond is an excellent passer. I think he is unique even guys like Jokić, Arvydas Sabonis, Vlade Divac, or any of the guys you would consider the great passing big man of all time,” said Kerr.
“Draymond really plays more like a point guard, so he is passing from in most cases from a guard position. Not from the low block, he will pass from the block too. He is definitely one of the best passers in the league right now, but more than anything, I think he is a unique passer. That’s how I look at him because of the position he plays. “
After the game, Steph Curry was asked if Green was prepared to play more at the five spot. The Warriors are short-handed at the position with injuries to James Wiseman, Kevon Looney, and Marquese Chriss.
“He is ready for most anything at this bad spot, his ability to see the floor and see what is necessary at the highest level. Obviously, he’s had 30 assists in these last two games playing at the five. I know he wants a couple of those turnovers back, we had great spacing, great ball movement, and he knows exactly where the open guy was, and I know he enjoys playing like that,” said Curry.
“He talks about setting screens. It makes him happy; feeding the open guy gets him going. We will see when we get some of our guys back how we transition to more tradition type situations.”
Next up for the Warriors is a two game series against the San Antonio Spurs starting Monday.
