WNBA reporter Roberta F. Rodrigues reported last week before the start of WNBA free agency that both Skylar Diggins and Nneka Ogwumike ‘high likely’ wouldn’t return.
“Here’s some of the intel I have re: Seattle Storm roster movements. Skylar Diggins and Nneka Ogwumike are highly likely to depart now that Noelle Quinn is gone. Also, we might see Diggins in an East conf. team for the first time in 2026.”
She added that the Storm would also be focusing on guards in free agency and the 2026 WNBA draft on Monday.
A couple days later Rodrigues reported that there had been conversations between Diggins and the Chicago Sky and a decision would be made soon.
“The Chicago Sky is in conversations with Skylar Diggins and both sides might make a decision soon, multiple sources tell me.”
On Friday, ESPN’s Chiney Ogwumike reported that her sister Nneka would be signing with the Los Angeles Sparks. The deal is for one year worth $1.19-$1.4 million and pairs the 2016 WNBA MVP with stars like Kelsey Plum, Cameron Brink, and Dearica Hamby, who recently signed a three deal to stay with the team.
After Chiney broke the news, Nneka posted a video to X with the caption, “It was always see you later, now I’ll see you soon…”
The ten time All-Star also pinned a message to Seattle, which read, “Thank You Seattle.”
On Saturday morning news broke that Diggins indeed would be signing with the Chicago Sky. The news comes just days after the Sky dealt Angel Reese to Atlanta for two first round picks.
“The Sky are trading Angel to the Dream in exchange for two first-round picks. This trade is designed to achieve roster balance and represents a great opportunity for all parties,” General Manager Jeff Pagliocca said.
“Angel has achieved many record-breaking milestones in her first two years in the WNBA and has been a competitive force for the Sky,” Pagliocca added. “We are thankful for her many important contributions to this league and this game, and we know she will continue to have a big impact on the court and beyond. We wish Angel all the best in her next chapter.”
Diggins would later take to social media to express her gratitude for the Storm organization believing in her and giving her an opportunity the past two seasons.
“Thank you to the Seattle Storm organization for believing in me, supporting me and giving me the opportunity to grow both on and off the court.”
“Skylar is a player we have coveted for years. We are ecstatic to bring her to Chicago,” General Manager Jeff Pagliocca said. “She is one of the all-time elite passers in our game and continues to play at a high level on both sides of the ball.”
“Diggins is the kind of player who elevates everyone around her,” Head Coach Tyler Marsh said. “Skylar is a true veteran leader, and she possesses unmatched speed and shot creation potential. I can’t wait to work with her.”
On Saturday night, Rodrigues reported that a generous offer and being close to her family is the reason why Diggins elected to sign with Chicago.
“Sources told me proximity to family and a generous offer were the key factors behind Skylar Diggins’ decision to sign with the Chicago Sky.”
The Storm also officially lost Erica Wheeler as well as she signed with the Los Angeles Sparks reuniting her with Nneka Ogwumike. Wheeler shared the news via social media.
