Shannon Sharpe, Philip Rivers, and DeAngelo Hall Named as NFL Best Trash Talkers By Ex-Broncos DB
We are a little less than 2 months away from what’s supposed to be the start of the 2020-21 NFL season. The deadline for players that were on franchise tags for this upcoming football season to sign long-term deals has also come and gone. And it was just announced that there won’t be any preseason games this season.
Now, we have to wait and see how remaining free-agents on the market will help fill out the remaining roster spots on teams around the league. But, until then former 10 veteran turned radio host, Nick Fegurson recently shared who were some of the best trash talkers in the NFL when play from 2000-2010.
“Okay! So, in no particular order, I would Shannon [Sharpe], Philip Rivers, DeAngelo Hall, one of my former teammates, who is no longer with us is Darrent Williams. He was definitely a trash talker and Brandon Marshall [ex-Broncos wide receiver] is a trash talker as well, Ferguson recently shared on the ‘What’s Your Opinion’ podcast.
There have been some other honorable mentions such as Ferguson’s former teammate Jay Cutler, according to Bleacher Report’s Chris Roling, when Cutler was traded in 2009 fifth-round draft pick to the Chicago Bears for quarterback Kyle Orton, they also the Bears’ first- and third-round selections in 2009, and first-round pick in 2010.
Cutler as soon as he got to Chicago, he called up Aaron Rodgers and shared with him that he would be losing two games in a year. That prediction didn’t really work out too well for Cutler as of September 25, 2014, he had a 1-8 regular-season record against the Packers, according to David Haugh of the Chicago Tribune.
“The past is the past,” said Cutler, who claimed he was unaware of his 1-8 regular-season record against the Packers. “I think with this team and with this coaching staff we don’t really worry about what happened in the past or what’s going to happen in the future. We worry about today.”
Future Hall of Famer Richard Sherman and Tom Brady are amongst today’s biggest trash talkers in the league.
Who can forget when Sherman screamed at FOX Sports’ Erin Andrews during the post-game interview following the Seahawks beating the 49ers in the 2014 NFC Championship game?
“I’m the best corner in the game,” Sherman said. “When you try me with a sorry receiver like (Michael) Crabtree, that’s the result you’re going to get. Don’t you ever talk about me.”
Or when he asked Brady, “You mad, bro?” After the Seahawks beat the Patriots Seattle’s 24-23 in 2013. According to Sherman, Brady stated that they were nobodies.
“He was pretty much saying that we were nobodies,” Sherman said. “And we should come up to him after they got the win. He said stuff like that throughout the game. So we should just take that pretty well? Sure, can I get your autograph, too?”
