Kevin Durant’s Coach Used To Tell Him ‘Dominate Like Tracy McGrady’
Tracy McGrady is one the greatest shooting guard in NBA history. He played 14 seasons in the league. In 2017, he was inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame and other greats such as Rebecca Lobo, Muffet McGraw, and Bill Self.
Like other NBA greats, T-Mac had players growing up studying his game and added some attributes to their repertoire. Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant is one of them.
Recently, the two times Finals MVP was on Twitter Spaces. During the appearance, he was asked who were some of the people he patterned his game after growing up.
” I wouldn’t say I tried to emulate what they do. I wanted to play how they played. I wanted to dominate a game like a T-Mac did. That is one of the guys that I watched and duplicate games. Not necessarily his skill level when he was doing his move or whatever. In the game I was playing in that night, my coach would tell me, you got to dominate as T-Mac did,” said Durant.
“From controlling the game because Mac was handling, posting, shooting threes, passing out dimes, and rebounding. So, my coach was like you have to do everything too. That is how I looked at NBA players, and that’s how I added production into my game.”
During his career, T-Mac was a seven-time All-Star, 2-time scoring champion, and won a gold medal in 2004 as a part of Team USA Basketball. He averaged 19.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists.
