Netflix’s Selling the City, a spinoff of Selling Sunset that premiered on January 3, has introduced audiences to a new generation of luxury real estate agents in New York City. Jordyn Taylor Braff, a Douglas Elliman agent, is not hesitant to credit her past relationship with comedian Trevor Noah for shaping her career trajectory. On the show’s second episode, Braff talks candidly with Abigail Godfrey, her fellow agent, who reveals that she first moved to Manhattan for love.
“I was here visiting, and we met up, but I was so nervous. He’s a celebrity, but at the time, he was a nobody. No one knew who he was,”
Braff is referring to Noah, who is now 40 and once hosted The Daily Show. The pair’s relationship began on Twitter, which Braff describes as ‘ so random.’ However, their first meeting was anything but smooth.
“I was lunging down the street, and he was like, ‘This girl’s weird,’” Braff recalls with a laugh. “I was the funnier one in the relationship.”
The Comedic Connection
Braff discusses her relationship with Noah in a confessional-style segment, noting that her humor often inspired his material.
“Trevor borrowed me for material all the time,” she says. “I think I was the subject of jokes from time to time, but he would also steal my material, a hundred percent.”
Noah was credited with giving Braff a pivotal opportunity in her real estate career, despite their eventual split in the summer of 2018.
“He ended up purchasing an apartment — it was my first ultra-luxury deal. I think it was a $10 million dollar deal,” she says, adding with a grin, “It’s the only time you’ll ever hear that I slept with a client.”
This landmark deal made Braff’s transition from handling rentals and lower-end sales to entering the competitive luxury market possible.
“It catapulted me past the rental and lower-end sales and got me into luxury, which was awesome,” she notes.
Love for the City
Braff’s love for New York City remained despite her relationship with Noah not lasting. “Love kept me here, but not love for him — love for the city,” she shares.
