Drake refuses to back down in his escalating legal battle with Universal Music Group (UMG) and Spotify, sending a bold and defiant message during his ‘Drizzmas Giveaway’ livestream with Adin Ross on December 26. The Canadian rapper, known for his dominance in the music industry, tackled the controversy head-on, attacking what he claims are unfair practices by two of the major players in the industry.

Drake’s Defiant Message

After Sandra Graham, Drake’s mother, made an appearance, Drake made a powerful declaration that referred to his ongoing disputes with UMG and Spotify.

“That’s my mother, by the way. Any of you guys think you can finish me, from one man to the biggest corporation, you guys will never done me. Are you crazy?” he said.

He added, “The most powerful force you ever seen in your life, me and her together. We can finish anything, done any of you guys off. Trust me.”

The Legal Battle

Drake’s legal fight centers around two pre-action petitions he filed against UMG last month. The company allegedly utilized streaming bots and payola to boost the popularity of Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ song. Furthermore, he accuses UMG of defamation for promoting a track that labeled him a pedophile.

Drake has also requested that individuals from UMG and iHeartMedia be deposed to investigate allegations of illegal radio payments. Due to miscommunication, a hearing that was supposed to take place on December 20 in Bexar County, Texas has been pushed back to January 13.

On January 16, in New York, there will be a second hearing regarding his filing against both UMG and Spotify.

Spotify Pushes Back

Spotify has denied Drake’s accusations, stating that there is no evidence of streaming bots or collusion with UMG to promote Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us.’

“The predicate of Petitioner’s entire request for discovery from Spotify is false,” Spotify’s filing states. “Spotify and UMG have never had any such arrangement.”

Drake’s allegations were dismissed as baseless, and the platform’s attorneys called him out for filing a pre-action petition instead of a full lawsuit.

“This subversion of the normal judicial process should be rejected,” Spotify’s legal team argued.

Drake’s Attorneys Respond

According to Drake’s legal team, after their response, Spotify attempted to distance itself from UMG’s alleged manipulative practices.

“If Spotify and UMG have nothing to hide, then they should be perfectly fine complying with this basic discovery request,” his attorneys stated.

What’s Next?

Drake, UMG, and Spotify’s legal drama is still ongoing, with two crucial hearings set to take place in early January. Fans and industry insiders alike are closely watching how this high-stakes battle unfolds, as it could have significant implications for streaming practices and the music business as a whole. Drake’s determination to stand his ground sends a clear message that he’s prepared to challenge the music industry’s biggest players in order to defend his reputation and demand accountability.
