World’s 100 Meter Champion Fred Kerley Pays Homage To Los Angeles Lakers LeBron James By Hitting ‘The Silencer’ [Watch]
Fred Kerley led the charge on Saturday in an all-American track and field event, leading the way in the first U.S. Sweep of the sport’s premier event, the 100 meters, in 31 years at the world championships, according to ESPN.
He placed a red-white-blue stamp on day 2 of the first championships held on United States soil.
“We said we were going to do it and we did it,” Kerley said in the on-track interview, moments after the crowd had finished chanting “USA! USA! USA!”
“It’s amazing to be around the greats,” Kerley said. “They did it in ’91, and now we did it in ’22.”
After finishing the race, Kerley hit the silencer paying homage to Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James, who first introduced the world to the gesture when he was in Miami as a member of the The ‘Heatles.’ Kerley ran a 9.86 to take gold at the 2022 World Athletics Championships.
Speaking of LeBron James, he participated in the Drew League on Saturday afternoon for the first time since 2011. James dropped 42 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, and snagged four steals in a 104-102 win.
James’s former teammate Kyrie Irving was supposed to play in a game on Saturday but didn’t show up. Per ESPN, It sounded like a sure thing Irving would play.
“We still have a couple games left today and then six tomorrow, so we’ll see,” said Smiley, who is the commissioner of the Drew League.
“Sounded like it was going to be a sure bet, but I don’t know what happened.”
Irving was in Los Angeles at Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Phil Handy’s girls’ basketball skills camp.
Irving was recently spotted with Kanye West sparking Donda Sports rumors after Kyrie’s shoe contract ending with Nike.
