Mark Cuban Says Mavs Ownership Is An Option For Dirk Nowitzki, If He Wants It

It has been three seasons since Dirk Nowitzki decided to retire from the NBA. He expected to headline the 2024 Hall of Fame Class along with Dwyane Wade and Tony Parker.

During the Mavericks’ exited interviews, I asked Dirk Nowitzki if he would be interested in owning a piece of the D犀利士 allas Mavericks. Many fans and former players believe it would be a match made in heaven, and Nowitzki deserves a seat at the table.

“It is an honor that he said that; I want to focus on me still playing, and whatever I decided to do after my career. We will cross that bridge when we get there,” said Nowitzki.

Nowitzki’s former teammate Brendan Haywood would like to see it happen.

“I think what Dirk has done for the organization, how he has represented himself and the community, and the championship that they brought to Dallas. But, I think it is only right a small percentage of the Dallas Mavericks,” said Haywood.

“Just a small percentage and a seat at the table because you think of Dirk Nowitzki when you think of the Dallas Mavericks. You think of 2011 and that special team and that special run that he went on. So, when you think about all the sacrifices to help make that name, the Dallas Mavericks great. So, I think Dirk and Mark Cuban becoming partners in some way somehow is just the next step.”

Haywood and Nowitzki won a championship in 2011 by defeating Dwyane Wade in the Miami Heat in six games.

Devon Harris also is someone who says it’s fitting.

“I think it would be a fitting way to end it or begin it. By giving him a piece of that and allowing him to make some of those discussions.”

Early in the 2019 season, I asked Mark Cuban if he would be interested in Dirk Nowitzki joining him in the ownership box.

He replied, sure.

In a recent interview with Fortyeightminutes.com, Cuban was asked to give an update on that conversation.

“I told him that is an option for him whenever he wants. But, Dirk, I talk to him all the time when he is in the country. I’m always asking him when you are coming in and coming to the games,” said Cuban.

“So, I think I annoy the hell out of him at this point, but we just talked last week. So, we will see what he wants to do because we are working on his jersey retirement and the statue all the time too.”

Nowitzki is currently an advisor and a consultant. He was a significant part of the hiring of Jason Kidd as Mavs head coach and new GM & President of Basketball Operations,
Nico Harrison.
