The Philadelphia Sixers will play host to the Golden State Warriors on Saturday Night on ABC. With this game being in prime time, it’s already a much-watch game, but fans will be paying particular attention to the match between the Sixers and Warriors to see if Stephen Curry will break Ray Allen’s all-time three-point record. He’s ten away from achieving that feat. Saturday’s game will be the second meeting and final game between both teams in the regular season. The Warriors’ first meeting beat the Sixers 116 to 96 in San Francisco.
The Philadelphia 76ers are looking to even the season series with the Golden State Warriors at 1-1. They are also looking to rebound from their 118-96 loss on Thursday night at home. The Sixers are entering the game with a 14-12 record and are currently the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference.
As for Golden State Warriors, they are entering Saturday’s game as one of the hottest teams in the league. They currently tied for first place in the Western Conference with the Phoenix Suns. They ended Phoenix’s 18 games winning streak a little over a week ago and are coming off a 10-point victory against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday. Before that game against the Blazers started, Steph Curry needed 16-threes to past Ray Allen; he would go 6-17 from deep and finished the game with 22 points, two rebounds, and two assists.
After the game, Damian Lillard, who did not suit up for the Blazers due to an injury, was a guest on the Scott Van Pelt show. Lillard was asked about Steph Curry approaching Ray Allen’s record during that appearance.
“I mean, it’s special. I think he’s already the most prolific shooter in the history of the game, not going to be, said Lillard.
“I think he’s going to break the record and I think everybody has a ton of respect for what he’s does and how he does it. The person that he is and he’s electrifying, and fun to watch.”
On Friday evening, Los Angeles Lakers Forward LeBron James echoed Lillard’s comments after the Lakers victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
“First of all, the fact that the other night, when they played, we were really tracking to see if he could make 16 threes – it just lets you know how freaking amazing he is,” James said. “If there’s one guy in NBA history that can make 16 threes, it’s Steph Curry. I’m literally sitting there doing the calculations in my head. I’m like ’16. OK, I know he’s made 12 a few times. Well, if there’s someone that can do it, it’ll be him.’ That just lets you know how incredible he is.
“You can’t even jinx it, cause it’s gonna happen. It may not happen tomorrow … But it’s going to happen. We’re all witnesses to what Steph Curry has done in his career and the way that he’s changed the game. He’s a once-in-a-lifetime basketball player.”
