A resurfaced interview with Zyir Brown, former bodyguard to Tory Lanez, is stirring renewed debate around the rapper’s character and 10-year prison sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion. In the video, Brown—who once took a gun charge for Lanez and served two years in prison—shares a vastly different picture of the man at the center of one of hip-hop’s most polarizing cases.

A previously aired video shows Zyir Brown, the former bodyguard of Canadian rapper Tory Lanez. The rapper has reignited a public debate amid his ongoing legal efforts to overturn his 10-year prison sentence for the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.

In the video interview by LandonBuford.com, Brown shares his past experiences with Lanez. Offering a starkly different perspective of what has been portrayed in the media by shedding light on the rapper’s behavior in the early stages of his career.

The Loyalty and the Fallout: A Bodyguard’s Sacrifice

The NYPD’s Hip Hop Task Force followed Lanez and his entourage during a last-minute performance trip to New York City in March 2016. Brown stated that they found a weapon in their vehicle. Brown, then a member of Lanez’s close protection team, accepted full responsibility for the firearm, which resulted in a two-year prison sentence.

“I took the charge. That was my loyalty to him,” Brown recounted. “I did my time and expected at least acknowledgment. But when I came home, it was like I didn’t exist. No calls, no support, no loyalty back.”

Despite putting his freedom on the line for Lanez, Brown says he was ‘left for dead’ as the rapper’s stardom soared. The interview that was previously released is now a personal testimony and a cautionary tale of the one-sided loyalty that can occur in the entertainment industry.

Zyir Brown’s Perspective on Tory Lanez’s Character

Even though he was not present during the infamous July 2020 shooting incident involving Megan Thee Stallion, his remarks shed light on Lanez’s character in the years they worked together.

“Tory never acted like how the media is portraying him to act,” Brown said. “I’ve never seen him do anything physical to a woman. Never seen him yell at a woman—even when he argued with his own partner.”

Brown asserts that any behavior that indicated violent tendencies, particularly towards women, was not in line with the Lanez he had known.

“The Fargo I knew wasn’t confrontational. He didn’t argue. He didn’t scream. He’d just ask, ‘Where are you going?’ That was the extent of it. At that time, he was calm, composed.”

Lanez’s Legal Battle Continues: A Tense Public Fight

Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for three felonies related to the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. Lanez’s legal team has not given up on appealing the case, citing alleged prosecutorial misconduct and inconsistencies in the evidence presented at trial. A new video clip was released by the rapper’s defense team that claims to show a man who witnessed a woman firing a gun during the 2020 altercation.

This aligns with previous claims that Kelsey Harris, Megan’s former best friend, may have been involved in the shooting. Lanez initiated a petition to ask California Governor Gavin Newsom for a gubernatorial pardon. The petition has attracted more than 300,000 signatures and contains this quote from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.:

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

Megan Thee Stallion’s Legal Team Pushes Back

Megan Thee Stallion’s legal representatives are unmoved by Lanez’s team’s renewed attempts to introduce new narratives. Billboard reported that her attorney, Alex Spiro, dismissed the defense’s efforts as false narratives supported by ‘ignorant’ individuals looking to discredit a lawful conviction.

“He was convicted by overwhelming evidence—including his own admissions,” Spiro wrote. “This isn’t about tabloids. It’s about facts.”

Although Megan has been silent for the past few months, she has chosen to concentrate on her music and recovery. Her legal team is still actively defending the verdict.

Conclusion: A Polarizing Chapter in Hip-Hop History

Zyir Brown’s interview reappearance enhances Tory Lanez’s complex and highly publicized story. The violent narrative upheld in court contrasts with Brown’s account of loyalty, abandonment, and an allegedly calm and respectful Lanez.

This chapter in hip-hop is still a defining moment for accountability, loyalty, and justice, despite the rapper’s legal team’s push for a pardon, and public opinion remaining divided. For now, Tory Lanez remains behind bars, facing the weight of a decade-long sentence, ongoing legal scrutiny, and a community unsure of what to believe. The debate continues, and with every new video and allegation, the line between truth and perception becomes increasingly difficult to discern.
