The 2022 Grammys Could ‘Likely’ Be Postponed Due To The Omicron Variant, Per Reports

According to several sources, the Recording Academy will probably postpone the 64th annual Grammy Awards, scheduled for January 31 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, at a later date as a result of the Omicron Variant, not the Omarion variant that some continue to mispronounce.

The artist had to give a public service announcement last week to explain the two.

“Hi everybody, this is Omarion. I am an artist, not a variant,” he says in the clip. “So please be aware that if you just so happen to run into me on the street, you don’t have to isolate for five days, nor do you have to have a negative test result in order to dance to my music.”

“So please, be safe, be healthy, happy new year,” Omarion shared in the short video below

According to Billboard  that “according to multiple sources,” the 2022 Grammys may be postponed, with a “source with direct knowledge” noting it’s “looking likely.”

This would be the second year in a row that Grammys would be delayed due to COVID-19. Last year’s show was first scheduled for January 31, 2021, but on January 5, 2021, it was postponed to March 14 due to a spike in COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles. The show was also relocated from the Staples Center (the former name of Crypto.com Arena) to the nearby Los Angeles Convention Center, which allowed for fewer crowds.

According to Page Six, The Recording Academy is exploring other options, including outside at the Hollywood Bowl.

“They’re totally moving this thing. It’s all over the place, and they’re monitoring what the other awards shows are planning to do, but there’s a lot of buzz that they’re moving it to the Hollywood Bowl and are planning to cut the audience.”
