Dirk Nowitzki Gives Statue Update

In April of 2020, Mavs Moneyball’s Doyle Rader spoke with Mark Cuban, and during their conversation with Mark Cuban, they put the Statue on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

‘You know, this obviously slowed it down,” said Cuban. “The hope was to have a model ready to show the second game of this coming season when we retire his jersey. So we’ll have to see how everything plays out.”

Last February, Mark Cuban gave an update on the Statue during an interview with

“We hired the sculpter and I signed all the paperwork, so he is working on it. When I don’t know. You have to let an artist be an artist,” said Cuban.

On Tuesday afternoon, Dirk gave an update on his Statue.

Dirk Shared that he went to the artist’s studio in Chicago for a couple-hour posing session, but it won’t be part of tomorrow’s celebration.

The Mavericks will take on the Golden State Warriors at the American Airlines Center, and Dirk Nowitzki’s jersey retirement ceremony will take place after.
