Nate Robinson Still Hoping To Play for The Seattle Sonics One Day
Former Boston Celtic Nate Robinson, who is a native of Seattle, Washington. Still is holding out hope to possibly play for his hometown NBA team the Seattle SuperSonics one day. He even would be interested in owning a percent of the team. The only problem is Seattle currently doesn’t have a team.
” Would I? Of course, I would, but would not want just a percentage I want to play for Seattle. After I played, then I would like to own an interest in the team. I would like to show what I can offer as an owner and what we expect in our players while giving an opportunity for someone like myself that is hungry and wants to play hard. I want to be a part of building and developing a winning culture,” said Robinson
The Seattle Sonics have been missing from the NBA for the past 11 seasons after they relocated to Oklahoma City and changed their name to the Thunder. Ever since then the Emerald City has been waiting patiently for NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to announce that they will be expanding into other cities.
Earlier this season, I spoke with Dallas Maverick Owner Mark Cuban about the possibility of Seattle getting a team any time soon. Cuban told me that he could not speak about it, but did share that they are on top of the list to receive a team.
After game six of the Warriors and Clippers game in Los Angeles, a reporter by name of Cameron Buford with the LA Observer asked Kevin Durant if he would be willing to lend his name to help bring back the Sonics.
Dur
ant would reply, “Since we left, I’ve been screaming that a team needs to go there, so yeah,” Durant said.
The Sonics drafted Kevin Durant with the second pick overall in the 2007 NBA draft out of the University of Texas. Durant would only play one year in the Emerald City but was able to win Rookie of the Year that season. Immediately establishing himself as one of the leagues rising stars. He averaged 20.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, one steal per game, and play 80 games in 2007 for the then Seattle Supersonics per Basketball-Reference.com.
As for the rumored meeting on May 13th, according to the Seattle Times, It is it involves a local Billionaire named Chris Hansen and his investment group per Buford. The NBA nor the KeyArena renovation team knew about this meeting because it didn’t have anything to do with KeyArena. Hansen has had his own plans for an arena in the Seattle Sodo District. He has attempted to buy a couple of teams such as the Milwaukee Bucks, and Sacramento Kings at the time with Clippers Owner Steve Ballmer, but was unsuccessful and doing so.
