Mavericks Governor Mark Cuban Says Vegas NBA Team Will Do Well In Las Vegas
Dallas Mavericks governor Mark Cuban recently shared his confidence that a future NBA team in Las Vegas would succeed. With the city’s booming sports culture, tourism-driven economy, and recent additions of major league franchises, Cuban argues that Las Vegas is well-positioned to support another professional team. His comments add momentum to ongoing discussions about potential NBA expansion.

Last month, Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James revealed that he would like to own an NBA franchise in Vegas. James was on his HBO show 'The Shop' and dropped the news.
“I want to own a team,” James said. “I want to buy a team for sure. I want a team in Vegas. I want the team in Vegas.”
There is currently no NBA team in Las Vegas, and the two options are expansion or team relocation. According to John Canzano, NBA Governors are more fans of the expansion fee than the relocation fee.
“A sitting team president of an NBA franchise told me it’s unlikely that the league’s owners would allow the Trail Blazers to relocate to Seattle after a potential sale. ‘That’s a no-go,’ he said. The prevailing sentiment is that Seattle and Las Vegas have already been unofficially earmarked for NBA expansion and the current owners would prefer to avoid cannibalizing what would be a windfall of $6 billion in combined expansion fees.”
Speaking of Vegas, Mark Cuban was a guest on the Full Send Podcast and was asked how the future Vegas team would perform there.
"It crashes if NHL does well," said Cuban.
"If they just play the Lakers and Clippers everybody will just come down from LA and just tear it up. But yeah they'll do great here."
However, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver recently said the NBA doesn't have any plans to expand anytime soon.
“We are not discussing that at this time,” Silver said. “As I’ve said before, at some point, this league will invariably expand, just not at this moment.”
