Jamal Crawford On Nets’ Kevin Durant Potentially Returning To Seattle Before Retiring Then Transitioning Into Ownership Role With Team
Kevin Durant said he would like to purchase a piece of the Seattle Sonics post-retirement a few years ago.
“That’s a great question! I would love to, but it is easier to say yeah, I want to be a part of it. Then to know how to do it, but hell yeah, and bring basketball back to Seattle and build a winning team,” Durant.
“As someone that loves the game and enjoys the business as well, but understanding the pure game of basketball. Especially in Seattle, that would be sweet. But that has always been a dream of mine to run an NBA franchise and help lead young players as I get older. That would be an awesome experience.”
He added, “That would be a dream come true because all I want to during my time on earth is be around basketball. So, if I can’t play no more that would be the next best thing.”
Last summer, Durant shared what Sonics jerseys he would use if he could design the new jerseys.
“I would do the throwback joints that they won the championship with the Green letters across the front,” Durant told me.
In a recent interview, I spoke with Jamal Crawford about Kevin Durant playing one season when the Sonics return and then becoming an owner of the team and how the city would react.
“They would be a ecstatic it would be unbelievable because was a part of the reason, not only was he part of the team that left us. He was going to be the one that bridge to keep us here. You get a player of this magnitude in your hometown and goes on to be the best player in the world, and he comes back, and says I’m going to play another year here then goes into ownership,” said Crawford.
“Like they would be over the moon, and I think he would do an unbelievable job. Kevin is a very, very bright, brilliant guy. His basketball intelligence and how to put teams together, how to navigate certain things. His experience as well, what worked, what didn’t work, what players needed, what players needed to be together. I think he would be phenomenal all that different stuff you think about.”
Speaking of Durant, Steve Bulpett of Heavy Sports claims Durant is going to sit down face-to-face with Nets owner Joe Tsai.
“What I’m hearing is that KD is going to meet with the owner this week,” a source told Heavy Sports. “He’s going to go directly to the owner, Joe Tsai, sometime this week. We’ll see how that works.”
Durant asked for a trade last month.
