DK Metcalf On Chasing Down Budda Baker “I Knew I Had Him When I First Took OFF”
It has been two weeks since Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf chased down Arizona Cardinals safety Budda Baker. After the safety picked Russell Wilson and heading the other way.
Metcalf recently sat down with Dave Flemming for ESPN’s latest cover story, and during the interview, Metcalf was asked when he did know he had Baker.
Metcalf responded, “When I first took off.”
After it happened Budda Baker could be heard on auto saying “How did he catch my A**. WTF!”
According to Flemming, Metcalf was traveling at 114 yards at a top speed of nearly 23 miles per hour. “It was another all inspiring play for DK Metcalf.
“It’s actually crazy because I don’t think I was running at top speed in my mind,” said Metcalf. “It is normal for me to move that fast because I can control my speed”.
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said, that he was thrilled that Metcalf was in the space because “What can’t he do.”
Metcalf is forth in the lead in receiving yards heading into week nine against the Buffalo Bills. He is second in total touchdowns, and this year he already has as many touchdowns as he had all of last season.
It is crazy that the Seahawks drafted him with the last pick of the second round in the 2019 draft. 31 other teams that passed on him, but to their credit they were hesitant because of the cervical neck fracture. He suffered in college on a Kickoff return at Mississippi against Arkansas on Oct. 13, 2018.
Over the summer Metcalf and Wilson spent a lot of time getting their timing, which has paid dividends so far this season.
“There was a whole other level of the game that we thought that we could go to,” said Wilson. “Hopefully, we get to play together for a long time. We want to make it one of those special Joe Montana and Jerry Rice type of relationships.”
Wilson sent Metcalf a text message and shared that Manning and Harrison hold the record for most touchdowns by a duo.
“He sent me a text a while ago, Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison exactly holds the record by a quarterback/receiver duo. That’s who we are chasing, said Metcalf.
The duo looks to add to their touchdown tallies today against the Buffalo Bills.
