It is no secret that Mavericks’ three-time All-Star, Luka Doncic began his professional career in the EuroLeague as a member of Real Madrid. He spent three seasons overseas before electing to enter the NBA draft in 2019, following his MVP season with Real Madrid.
The Atlanta Hawks elected to draft Doncic third during the 2017 draft. Later that evening, The Hawks would trade for Trae Young, the fifth pick by the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks also traded a first-round selection, later being Cam Reddish.
Speaking of Luka Doncic, he was a recent guest on The Old Man and The Three Podcast with JJ Redick and Tommy Alter, where he discussed why it’s easier to score in the NBA than the EuroLeague.
” I would say European basketball is more team basketball tactics basketball. It is very different because the court is smaller, the fouls are different, the rules are different. So, everything is different, and you have less time,” Doncic told his former Maverick teammate, JJ Redick.
“Just playing in the NBA you have guys that are impossible to guard and that’s why the NBA is tougher to play. I will only say the scoring is easier in the NBA because of the amount of different rules and less space. That’s why I said it.”
Doncic and Redick were teammates during the 2020-21 season, and when it ended, Redrick would elect to retire and join ESPN as a basketball analyst.
On Thursday evening, the Dallas Mavericks lost to the Philadephia 76ers 111-101. Luka Doncic finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, and ten assists in 35 minutes. Next up for the Mavs will be the Hornets on Saturday night at 7 pm EST.
