Seahawks’ DK Metcalf Reminds Me Of Josh Gordon, Says Ex-Cardinal

Seahawks’ standout DK Metcalf is putting the league on notice.

In just his second season, he is leading the league in yards per catch (22.5). However, he is not satisfied that he has “only” the third-most touchdown receptions among NFL wide receivers (five).

“They are like Pokemon to me,” Metcalf said of TD catches, according to Gregg Bell of The News Tribune. “I’ve got to have them all.”

This weekend’s matchup against the Cardinals will not be an easy task for Metcalf and the Seahawks as they look to extend the best start [5-0] in franchise history. Metcalf is slated to see a lot of the Cardinals’ standout cornerback Patrick Peterson shadowing him during Sunday Night’s game.

Someone that Metcalf is very familiar with and someone that he feels “a lockdown” defender.

Last season during the Cardinals-Seahawks game at Centurylink Field, the Cardinals had Peterson zero in on Metcalf, and Russell Wilson targeted Metcalf just once.

“They kind of took me out the game,” Metcalf said earlier this week. “And you know, we just couldn’t catch a rhythm on offense.”

However, according to Metcalf,  “We learn from those mistakes, learn from games like that.”

Former Cardinal defensive back, Robert Nelson Jr shared how he would approach a match up against Metcalf.

“I mean a guy like that; you have to study him to understand his strengths and weaknesses. He is a big physical guy; fast with me, no one will run past me in the league. I don’t care who it is. So, you have to work off his weaknesses. Can he get off of the press? If he can get off of press fake like you are going to press him and bail out of there,” said Nelson.

I have to admit I don’t watch his gam威而鋼 e that much, but I see him like Josh Gordon, and I stuck with Josh Gordon, [DeAndre] Hopkins, he is faster than Hopkins, but Hopkins probably has the best eye coordination in the NFL period. So, you have to study these guys and have to go into the game, not scared. No matter what size you are, he put on his pads just like me no matter what round in the draft you went in. And I’m going to strap him like I strap everybody else.

Cardinals’ defensive coordinator, Vance Joseph shared that “it won’t be one person’s job.” to cover Metcalf.

“When your secondary is playing well, it makes it easy to call a game,” Joseph said. “You feel good about calling certain pressures; you feel good about closing the middle without having the anxiety of giving a big play up.”

“DK is having a great year so far,” Peterson said. “He’s definitely becoming the go-to guy for Russell [Wilson]. You can tell he’s gained a ton of confidence. We’re going to have our hands full, with what their offense is capable of and what they love to do, they love to take those shots but keep you balanced. … As a defense, I believe we have a great plan in place. They are No. 1 in the league for a reason.”
