Brandon Roy Had No Weaknesses, Says Jamal Crawford

Brandon Roy sits with his two children and signs autographs with Jamal Crawford, left, and Spencer Hawes at Friday night’s Pro-Am game at KeyArena. The Seattle Pro-Am game was played Friday night, July 10, 2015, at KeyArena in Seattle

Brandon Roy is a three-time All-Star with the Portland Trailblazers from 2008-2010. The Minnesota Timberwolves took Roy with the sixth pick in the 2006 draft, but would immediately trade him to the Portland in exchange for Randy Foyle.

In his first game against the Seattle Supersonics, he scored 20 points in front of his hometo樂威壯
wn crowd in Seattle. In the following game, he scored 19 points and would go on to be selected to the rookie squad of the NBA All-Star Weekend Rookie Challenge. Roy was the fourth Blazer to participate in this event since it made its debut back in 1994.  He was also the first Blazer since Rasheed Wallace was selected as a reserve in the Jailblazers days.

Unfortunately for Roy, his career was cut short due to numerous leg injuries during his six-year career. He played his first five seasons in Portland, but had to retire. He would eventually play a short stint in Minnesota, but it was not in the cards and had to retire again.

Former Blazer Jamal Crawford was a member of the New York Knicks in 2006, but he has been aware of Brandon Roy since he was a kid growing up in Seattle.

I recently spoke with Crawford to get his opinion on what the NBA missed with Roy’s talent.

“Just his all-around play. He was so unassuming with his game you, didn’t h必利勁
e had this or that and really he had no weaknesses. I remember going over a scouting report when he was a rookie and my Knicks teammates were like what do mean no weaknesses? I was like nah he has no weaknesses he can dribble, shoot, pass, defend, post, and he does everything. He makes the right play all the time and I think he plays with his mind first when he was out there. That is why he was such a joy. Only true basketball purest appreciates how good he was.”

Roy is currently the head coach at Garfield High School in Seattle.
