Energy Whores unplug the digital connection and spark a reckoning on “Electric Friends”

Energy Whores’ new single, “Electric Friends,” urges you to acknowledge a grim reality in a world where everything is connected, genuine connection can sometimes feel impossibly far away. The song slowly morphs into a meditation on digital loneliness, forsaking the instant gratification for something much more profound and disturbing.
“Electric Friends” grapples with how technology transforms and often perverts modern relationships. Carrie Schoenfeld, the creative force behind Energy Whores, says the song is a humorous take on curated online intimacy, where friendships exist only as long as the power stays on. Take away the electricity, and those radiant illusions vanish before you, making it impossible to ignore what is real and what never was.
The song simmers with purpose, letting its emotional weight build gradually. Energy Whores is an eclectic combination of disciplines and perspectives from a classically trained pianist, an indie filmmaker, and an Off-Broadway producer, Carrie Schoenfeld, who collaborates with the guitarist Attilio Valenti.
The single is from Energy Whores’ next full-length album, “Arsenal of Democracy,” to be released on vinyl. This song makes us think the album will be a cuttingly self-aware examination of the systems we occupy and are born into, and the connections we feel we’ve made along the way.
