Omari Hardwick Says We Never Knew Ghost — Power Prequel or Movie Coming?
Over five years after his on-screen death, Ghost remains a central figure in the Power universe. Now, Omari Hardwick says we never truly knew the real James St. Patrick—and he’s open to returning to explore the mysterious chapter before Power began. From early rivalries to untold family history, the door may be wide open for Ghost’s unfinished story.

It’s been more than a decade since James St. Patrick, aka Ghost, was killed off in Power, but the character’s presence continues to loom large over the Power Universe. Ghost remains a driving force in the franchise’s DNA, whether through references from Tommy, Tasha, or Tariq, or through teachings passed down. According to Omari Hardwick, the man behind the myth was never truly known to us. In a video interview that has been resurfaced, Hardwick expressed a genuine interest in revisiting the pre-Power world of Ghost – a period of Ghost’s life that fans have never seen before.
“I would love to cut my teeth on the pre-world that Ghost came from,” said Hardwick. “We don’t even know who Ghost is. We only really know him from the perspectives of Tasha, the kids, Tommy, Angela… but we don’t know this kid. I never got to really sink my teeth into that world.”
Who Was Ghost Before Club Truth?
Ghost’s past continues to remain a mystery despite six intense seasons of Power. What was his character like before launching Club Truth? What caused him to become involved in the drug business? What were the sacrifices made by him to become the man we met in episode one? Hardwick believes the character’s story was not fully told, especially not from his perspective. Ghost was seen by those around him through the lenses of those around him in Power. Angela saw James, a romantic who once had dreams beyond the streets. Tommy considered him to be his brother and, at times, a traitor. Tasha observed the businessman who abandoned street life and the man who betrayed her.
Kanan portrayed Ghost as a man who was cunning and selfish, a man who betrayed him in order to succeed. Yet, despite all these viewpoints, the core of Ghost remains elusive. The truth about his parents, upbringing, and what truly shaped him is still a mystery to fans. He appeared out of nowhere — already calculated, polished, and driven — with few indications of his origin. Ghost’s record was spotless even after Angela’s background check. That wasn’t just good writing; it was deliberate storytelling, creating a character built on secrets.
Power Origins and the Missing Years
The development of Power Origins, a prequel series that follows young Ghost, Tommy, and Kanan, will finally give fans answers. Ghost’s childhood, his relationship with his family, how he met Tommy, and the beginning of their empire are likely to be discussed. The focus of that series will be on Ghost’s younger self, who may be played by a new actor. What Hardwick is proposing would be something entirely different – a return to the character in the years leading up to Power Season 1. A deeper look into Ghost’s early adulthood. The grittier in-between. The unknown. Courtney Kemp and fans have previously floated the idea of a Power movie or limited series that fills in the gaps between Power Origins and Power Season 1. Hardwick appears eager to consider the possibility.
“As an actor, I don’t feel like I did the full turn of the guy until I go back a bit,” Hardwick noted.
Could Omari Hardwick Return?
Fans are wondering if Starz or Lionsgate could create a Ghost-centered film or trilogy based on Hardwick’s comments. What is the connection between the final episode of Power Origins and the beginning of Power? Is it possible for Ghost’s long-rumored backstory to be finally revealed?
There is a lot of unexplored territory from his rivalry with crews in Trenton to his early dealings with Felipe Lobos. Stories that demonstrate how Ghost became powerful. Mistakes that influenced him. Betrayals that hardened him. Moments that made a young dreamer into a man capable of both love and calculated destruction. Hardwick is eager to help complete the final piece of the puzzle, which could be the final piece.
The Legacy Lives On
Despite death, the ghost remains the focal point of everything. Tariq continues to chase after his shadow. Tommy’s memories are still haunting him. The same question is still being asked by fans:
Who was James St. Patrick, really?
Hardwick’s debut as a prequel could finally give fans a glimpse of the man behind the suit, the legend behind the name, and the choices that led to a change in everything. Throughout Power Book II: Ghost, Raising Kanan, Force, and Origins, the Power Universe continues to grow, and one thing is certain: Power never goes out of reach. Perhaps Ghost’s story hasn’t either.
