Chelsea Lazkani, an emerging star on Netflix’s hit show Selling Sunset, has been the focal point of one of the most shocking and emotional storylines in season eight.
As allegations of her husband’s infidelity unravel before the cameras, the British-Nigerian real estate agent known for her poise and confidence is facing turmoil. The new season explores the strain this scandal has placed on Chelsea’s personal life, culminating in her filing for divorce earlier this year.
The teaser trailer for season eight gave fans their first look at the brewing storm last month. Chelsea, 31, was seen crying during the scene when a woman named Amanda Lynn informed fellow cast member Bre Tiesi, 33, that she had heard rumors about Chelsea’s husband being unfaithful. Amanda Lynn, who has faced controversy over past racist tweets, reportedly passed on this gossip to Bre, in an emotional confrontation filmed at the Los Angeles restaurant ADKT, who was compelled to reveal the news to Chelsea.
Chelsea’s world was shocked by the revelation that Jeff Lazkani was seen making out with another woman around Christmas time. Bre’s revelation to Chelsea in episode five of the new season resulted in a tearful scene that captured the reality star’s raw emotions. Although season eight does not cover the specifics of Chelsea and Jeff’s split, Selling Sunset fans already knew that Chelsea had filed for divorce earlier this year.
Chelsea filed for divorce on March 27, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason for the breakup of their marriage. The couple, who met on Tinder in 2015 and share two children, three-year-old daughter Melia and five-year-old son Maddox, had been together for seven years. Chelsea is in search of joint custody of their children, as well as spousal support from Jeff, who is a managing partner at Icon Media Direct. The legal documents did not mention a prenup, but Chelsea stated that the division of assets would be settled in court.
Shortly after Chelsea filed for divorce, Jeff responded with his legal filings, claiming that Chelsea had been physically aggressive towards him both before and after she filed for divorce. According to Jeff’s written declaration, Chelsea allegedly struck him in the face, breaking his glasses and causing a small cut. Jeff accused Chelsea of restricting his access to their Manhattan Beach home by installing a lock on the primary bedroom door and remotely monitoring his movements. Jeff claimed to be the primary owner of their $2.9 million home and asked for exclusive use and possession of it, citing Chelsea’s ‘provocative’ and suspicious behavior.
Jeff further alleges that several of his personal belongings went missing after Chelsea filed for divorce, including a scarf from a deceased family member, his father’s hat, and a spare key to his car. According to him, Chelsea admitted to moving her Rolex, which resulted in more tension between the estranged couple. Jeff asked Chelsea to have 48 hours to retrieve her belongings from the property at the time of his filing, with a neutral party present to oversee the division of their shared assets.
Chelsea’s struggles take precedence as season eight of Selling Sunset unfolds. In an emotional moment, she removes her wedding ring, indicating her marriage is over. “I think this needs to come off,” she said as she reflected on the end of her relationship. “The foundation I built in Manhattan Beach is something I thought I would be building for years to come. I would have fought to the very end for my marriage.”
Chelsea’s heartbreak doesn’t stop her from showing glimpses of hope for the future. In a poignant conversation with her co-star Emma, after touring a property in Studio City, she admits: “I haven’t really wrapped my head around what the next couple of months, let alone the next couple of years, would look like for me. But something about being in this house just screams new beginnings for me, and I’m kind of not closing my mind to it like I was before—I’m just embracing it.”
Chelsea’s fans have been deeply moved by her resilience and vulnerability in the face of personal adversity as she moves forward. Season eight may have caused her pain, but it also demonstrated Chelsea Lazkani’s strength as she embarks on a new chapter in her life.
