Former Wizard Gilbert Arenas Thinks John Wall is the “Best Point Guard in Wizards History”
In an interview earlier this morning, former Washington Wizards point guard Gilbert Arenas state that John Wall is the best point guard in Wizards history.
“Yes, I think so! His longevity because people try to say I am, but he has played in Washington longer than I did. My impact was probably greater because I came on like a rocket, but his longevity outweighs what I did,” Arenas told me during a phone over the phone earlier today.
In 2017, Ranker.com also named Wall, as their best point guard to play in Washington out of 30 others, which includes Rod Strickland, Earl Monroe, Kevin Porter, Scott Skiles, Brandon Jennings, Kirk Hinrich, and Mike Bibby.
During his eight seasons in a Wizards’ uniform the man they call “Agent Zero” averaged 25 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game.
As for Wall, during his first eight seasons with the Wizards, he has averaged, 19 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 9.2 assists per game. Last season, he averaged a career-high in points with 20.7, 3.6 rebounds, and 8.7 assists per Basketball-Reference.com.
Former 5-time All-Star John Wall is currently out nursing an Achilles tendon injury, which he suffered back on December 26th, 2018. He would undergo surgery almost two weeks later, for what NBA.com reported as “debridement and repair of a Haglund’s deformity and a chronic Achilles tendon injury in his left heel.” Sometime later, Wall slipped and fell at his home and according to CBS Sports, the recovery time would take even longer for the former all-star guard to make his return to the Wizards.
This news was devastating for the Wizards because Wall is the face of their franchise and just signed a four-year contract extension worth $171million. Due to Wall’s current status of being on the injured list is also puts the Wizards in a predicament because it makes it nearly impossible to move him in any trade scenario. Not only will this injury take a season away from Wall, but there is also no telling that he will return to All-Star form. Athletes with Achilles injuries rarely are the same type of player they were pre-injury. The only player that was better posting his Achilles injury was Dominique Wilkins. Before going down with his injury, Dominique averaged 26.2 points through 810 games, and 30,000 minutes. The season after returning from the Achilles injury, he averaged 29.9 points.
Wilkins appeared on the Tiki & Tierney show and shared how he has overcome the challenging injury.
It was all in my head, but once I got over that, I said ‘you know what? I’m going full tilt. Whatever happens, happens, but I’m gonna out on my own terms.’
Wall recent weighed on Kevin Durant, who recently went down with an Achilles injury.
“I talk to Kevin all the time. We’re great friends. He’s doing great. He’s taking his time, I guess. I don’t know,” said Wall. “I just wish him the best. He’s one of those guys; if he has the Achilles or not, it’s not going to affect him, I feel because he can score at all levels.”
Per TMZ, Kevin Durant is currently in Los Angeles rehabbing his Injury.
