Virginia Cavaliers: Mavericks Assistant Coach Jenny Boucek Hopes They Win It All
The University of Virginia is gearing up to face the Purdue Boilermakers in the Elite Eight in a couple of hours. As both schools are looking to punch their tickets into the Final Four this year in Minneapolis. The Cavaliers just secured a school-best 32 win this season as they beat the Oregon Ducks 53-49 to advance from the Sweet Sixteen. Meanwhile, the Boilermakers were taken into overtime by the Tennessee Volunteers after having a second-half lead of 18 points. Purdue would go on to beat the Vols in overtime with a score of 99-94 to secure their place in the Elite Eight.
Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Jenny Boucek will be watching tonight’s game against Purdue.
Boucek was a four-year starter at Virginia from 1992- 1996, where she helped lead the Cavaliers to four consecutive regular-season ACC Championships, and three Elite Eight appearances. She also received team Defensive Player of the Year honors twice and is a member of the 1000 points scored club at The University of Virginia.
“I would like to see them win it all, but it is March Madness and the fun things about it anything can happen. I’ve had great experiences with March Madness in college. Some of my favorite Memories of my entire sports career and there is nothing like the one and done format. So, you absolutely never know and anything is possible and I hope that anything is winning it,” Boucek told me.
After her college career was finished, she played professional basketball for two seasons with the Cleveland Rockers and Keflavík in the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild. Before pursuing a career as a coach due to a career-ending back injury. Boucek would help the Seattle Storm win two WNBA Championships as a member of Anne Donovan staff in 2004, and again under Brian Agler in 2010.
