Jamal Crawford on Competing For a Championship’You Jump on That’

Earlier this week 20-year veteran Jamal Crawford made headlines after it was reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania, that he agreed to terms with the Brooklyn Nets. Crawford will be joining the Nets in the NBA bubble when the season resumes later this month.
It has been a year since Crawford played his last game as a member of the Phoenix Suns, where he scored 51 points against the Dallas Mavericks on April 9, 2019. Crawford recently spoke with Heavy’s Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson and revealed how the deal with the Nets went down.
“Things happened kind of fast. I mean, we had dialogue with them just like we had every team throughout the course of the year, but nothing translated at that time. Maybe it wasn’t the right time. But then, with everything happening now, different things kinda happened fast. It accelerated really, really fast and it worked out.”
Back in April, I spoke with Crawford and asked the three-time Sixth of the Man winner, if he would rather chase that elusive championship ring or follow in Vince Carter’s footsteps, and play with teams that are not in playoff contention. A decision Carter was praised for by ESPN’s Rachel Nichols.
“For me, I mean, obviously winning a championship is ideal, that is wh at you play for, and that is what you shoot for. So, if that opportunity is there you jump on that, but in this situation you can’t really be choosy,” said Crawford.”You kinda have to take it as it goes, and see if there is any interest and see where it goes.”
The Nets will be without players such as Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, Spencer Dinwiddie, DeAndre Jordan, Wilson Chander, Taurean Prince, and Nic Claxton when the season resumes on July 31, due to either injury or testing positive for COVID-19. Crawford still believes, though the Nets will have a young roster they will still be exciting to watch.
“I know that they’re young, they’re exciting, they’re a team that has that obviously but their vets, not all of them are playing down here in Orlando,” Crawford said.
“But, they’re intriguing from the standpoint that they’re gonna be fun; now we’re going to be fun. I’m part of the team; we’re going to be fun now. Obviously, everybody’s pumped for next year, the future, the groundwork is already in place.”
