The Seattle Storm To Honor Sue Bird Before Jersey Retirement On June 11

Sue Bird Jersey Retirement Day presented by Coinbase on June 11 will be a day to remember, but the celebrations are expected to start early in Seattle as the Seattle Storm has planned activities throughout the weekend to honor the team legend and four-time WNBA Champion.

Sue Bird and the Storm kick off the weekend of festivities on June 9 atop Seattle’s iconic Space Needle, where Bird will raise a replica of her jersey retirement banner at 9 a.m. PT. Later that day, the Storm will unveil a mural at 2030 First Avenue in Belltown to honor Bird’s career. The mural, in collaboration with Muros, is being painted by local Seattle artist Craig Cundiff.

The Storm previously collaborated with Muros in 2021 for a mural that celebrated the franchise’s fourth WNBA title and commitment to social justice, located in Queen Anne just a few blocks from Climate Pledge Arena.

On Saturday, in partnership with TOGETHXR, a media company co-owned by Sue Bird, the Storm will host a clinic for girls ages 9-14 at the Rotary Boys & Girls Club in the Central District of Seattle. Kids will enjoy an hour-long basketball clinic and be presented with complimentary items including a T-shirt, a basketball, a TOGETHXR swag bag, and a chance to win tickets to the game on June 11.

On the big day, June 11, fans will gather at Climate Pledge Arena where the Seattle Storm hosts the Washington Mystics at 12 p.m. PT for Sue Bird Jersey Retirement Day presented by Coinbase. Doors open at 10 a.m. PT and the first 5,000 fans in the arena will receive a Sue Bird bobblehead. Plus, another 10,000 rally towels will be waiting on fans seats.

In addition, attendees will have a chance to claim a limited-edition Sue Bird digital collectible* using             Coinbase Wallet, and automatically enter a sweepstakes for the chance to win prizes such as autographed items, VIP tickets to Storm games and a meet and greet with Sue Bird.

To conclude the weekend of celebrations, the Storm is slated to host a Jersey Retirement ceremony following the game conclusion when Sue Bird’s No. 10 will be raised to the rafters and eternalized in Seattle sports history.
