Starz is expanding its flagship Power universe with two new spinoffs — Power: Legacy and Power: Origins — as part of a broader strategy to develop original, fully owned IP following its split from Lionsgate. With Tommy and Tariq expected to reunite in Legacy and a prequel set to explore the rise of Ghost and Tommy in Origins, the network continues to build one of television’s most successful crime drama franchises.

Starz is aggressively pursuing its goal of strengthening its grip on premium drama content by expanding its Power universe and increasing its slate of wholly owned original series after splitting from Lionsgate. The network is doubling down on its flagship franchise with two new spinoffs, Power: Legacy and Power: Origins.

The original Power will be remade into a series that builds on the deeply rooted saga of crime, loyalty, and betrayal, making it one of the most iconic shows in modern cable history.

Power: Legacy – Tariq and Tommy Reunite in Present-Day Chaos

The next chapter in the Power universe, currently under the working title Power: Legacy, brings together two of the franchise’s most electrifying characters – Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.) and Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora). Gary Lennon and Kendra Chapman are the developers of this new series, both of whom have played in Power Book IV: Force. Force’s gritty storytelling and character depth will be maintained through Lennon’s role as showrunner.

Power: Legacy is expected to start after the explosive events of Power Book IV: Force and Power Book II: Ghost, even though the official plot details remain unknown. This creates the unique opportunity for a multi-city crossover involving Chicago, New York City, or possibly even London, a location that Curtis’ ’50 Cent’ Jackson has teased.

Fans will see explosive tension, shifting alliances, and a generational clash as Ghost and Kanan’s legacy continues to shape the fates of those left behind.

Power: Origins – The Prequel that Brings Ghost and Tommy Back

Paralleling the present-day saga is Power: Origins, a prequel series that chronicles the early life of Ghost (James St. Patrick) and Tommy Egan. Fans will finally be able to see young Ghost and Tommy on screen in this project, which is set shortly after the events of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, a duo whose rise changed the drug game forever.
Sascha Penn, the creator of Raising Kanan, is in charge of the prequel as executive producer and showrunner. The writers’ room has already been opened, and the early development indicates a promising future. Penn has confirmed that Ghost and Tommy will gradually be introduced as teenagers in the series as they intertwine with Kanan’s crew. Shameik Moore‘s portrayal of Branford’ Breeze’ Frady in the Raising Kanan Season 4 finale expands the timeline.

Strategic Franchise Growth After the Lionsgate Split

Starz’s new strategy after separating from Lionsgate is characterized by the creation of Power: Legacy and Power: Origins, which emphasizes the creation of wholly owned intellectual property. Starz is determined to leverage its former partner for franchise content while investing in wholly owned new series to maximize profitability and creative control, even though Lionsgate Television continues to produce the Power franchise.
The network can manage costs, develop long-term IP value, and create a revolving door of interconnected spinoffs that keep viewers engaged without exacerbating their lifespan. Starz CEO Jeff Hirsch has previously explained this strategy, stating that each show’s shorter and sharper episodes help control production costs and make room for character-driven spinoffs that replace outgoing series at half the price.

The Legacy of Power – A Cultural and Commercial Juggernaut

Courtney A. Kemp’s Power franchise initially made the creation, which reshaped the category of urban crime dramas. The Power series’ initial run of six gripping seasons was a massive success, establishing the foundation for a universe that now encompasses:

  • Power Book II: Ghost – Focusing on Tariq St. Patrick after his father’s death

  • Power Book III: Raising Kanan – Chronicling the origin of 50 Cent’s character, Kanan

  • Power Book IV: Force – Centering on Tommy Egan’s new life in Chicago

  • Power: Origins – An early timeline prequel of Ghost and Tommy

  • Power: Legacy – A continuation of Force and Ghost timelines with Tariq and Tommy

The franchise is produced by G-Unit Film and Television (Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson), End of Episode (Courtney A. Kemp and Canton Entertainment (Mark Canton), in association with Lionsgate Television.

The Crossover Potential – Expanding the Universe Across Borders

Completing Force’s final season and Raising Kanan’s fifth and final chapter in Power: Legacy and Origins opens new avenues for creative storytelling. Starz can expand internationally by using the fan-favorite characters of Tommy and Tariq, which can cross between cities or even continents. There is also growing speculation about a UK-based chapter, which could introduce a new cast of characters while connecting to existing storylines. The Power brand would become a global storytelling powerhouse and align with global expansion goals if such a move were made.

The Future of Power – A Blueprint for Franchise Longevity

Starz’s Power universe provides a comprehensive course in franchise evolution. By combining legacy characters, origin stories, and international expansion, the network is continuing to redefine what it means to build and sustain long-term IP. Fans can rest assured that the saga of Ghost, Tommy, Tariq, and Kanan is not over, as Power: Legacy and Power: Origins are developing.

Expect to see more unexpected castings, returning legends, and new alliances as the franchise expands the most dominant crime drama universe on television today.
