The Netflix debut of WWE Raw in Los Angeles brought together the worlds of professional wrestling and hip-hop. Wrestling tag team New Day unexpectedly called out West Coast rapper Kendrick Lamar during the sold-out crowd at the Intuit Dome.

“Think about it,” Xavier Woods began, addressing the raucous crowd. “The past six months y’all have been elevating this trash rapper Kendrick Lamar.”

The heel promo was met with immediate boos from the LA faithful, who were not willing to tolerate any disrespect towards their hometown hero. The taunts from New Day’s Kofi Kingston were intensified, urging the crowd to join in.

“Yea, boo him, we think he sucks too, Boo him yes, yes. Boo him. So you’re not mad at us. You’re mad at Kendrick Lamar because Drake won the beef, right?”

The duo took advantage of the heat, drawing reactions from fans both in the arena and online.

The Internet Reacts

Social media was in a frenzy after the segment aired. X (formerly Twitter) was the platform where one fan wrote.  “Doing this in LA is insane work,” Idcstfumaynee wrote. Another user was named n0acls wrote, “Top tier trolling.”

Despite this, not everyone was amused. As fans noted, the clip was only accessible to those in the arena or Netflix subscribers with the ad-free plan. Netflix’s standard-with-ads plan viewers noticed that the segment was missing entirely, resulting in online complaints about the exclusive content strategy.

Kendrick Lamar’s Radar

The biggest question remains Kendrick Lamar’s response. The Compton MC, known for his sharp lyricism and occasional jabs at critics, may acknowledge New Day’s comments in future tracks or performances. The rapper hasn’t spoken about the matter yet.

Travis Scott Joins the WWE Party

WWE Raw’s Netflix debut featured hip-hop heavyweights other than Kendrick. Travis Scott’s star-studded appearance heightened the blurring of the lines between wrestling and rap culture. Scott’s unreleased track ‘4X4″ was unveiled as the show’s new theme song, adding to the evening’s excitement. Scott’s participation was first hinted at by WWE’s Triple H back in November, with a promise of a significant collaboration for the debut. WWE and Scott’s fanbases were buzzed when Netflix confirmed the partnership the following day.

A New Era for WWE and Hip-Hop

WWE Raw’s Netflix debut is a significant step forward in the integration of professional wrestling and hip-hop culture. Fans are experiencing a unique fusion of two dynamic entertainment worlds with the unexpected inclusion of Kendrick Lamar and Travis Scott’s new theme song. Kendrick Lamar is getting all the attention as the story unfolds. Will he embrace the challenge or let New Day’s words fade into the echo of the ring? Indeed, the crossover between and wrestling has only just begun.
