Kanye West Fell Asleep During The Making of All Of The Lights’ Hook, Says The Dream

It has almost been ten years since Kanye West released arguably his best album, ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.’
One of the most member singles from that project is ‘All of the Lights’ featuring Drake, John Legend, The Dream, Alicia Keys, Fergie, Kid Cudi, Elton John, Ryan Leslie, Charlie Wilson, Tony Williams, La Roux, Alvin Fields, Ken Lewis, and Rihanna.
Apparently, during the making of the hook, West and his whole team had fallen asleep.
On Thursday Night, The Dream was on Clubhouse as a part of the tenth anniversary of Beyoncé’s fourth solo album entitled ‘4.’ Dream worked on several singles on the project such as “Run the World (Girls),” and ” End of Time.”
During the making of Beyoncé’s I AM Tour DVD and West was asked by Beyoncé to come in to do some over-dubs, according to DJ Swivel.
“So, before we could cut them, he comes in, and he is working on ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. He starts playing the whole album and kind of, in a way, hijacks the room and plays the whole album. We were all loving it, and he is like, someone go grab Dream because I think he was upstairs. He comes down and starts listening to the record. He had this song, but in the meantime, he was supposed to be cutting this record for Beyoncé,” said Swivel.
“And he asks us to pull this song up for his album, and it’s ‘All of the Lights,’ but it did not have a hook. And he was like, ‘Yo Dream, maybe you can do something to it and jumps in the booth and nail this hook. The funny thing by the time he nailed the hook, and it was perfect. It was ready, and he is like, Kanye, you like it? He is fast asleep in the studio.”
All of this was during the creation of ‘End of Time’, according to Dream.
“To make the short story a little bit longer the first hook ended up being the hook for ‘All of the Lights.’ He was like that was good, but try a couple of more, so I can’t see behind the glass whether, he is up talking or whatever. I’m already four hooks in deep, and I’m not going to stop until someone stops me,” said Dream.
“I did not know he was asleep, but Beyoncé tells me, Dream your first hook was great he’s sleep. So I’m like, what? Are you serious? And I come out the room, and he is knocked out, and I’m like I’m going to finish ‘End of Time.”
The hit song went on to be featured in a Gatorade commercial starring Serena Williams, NBA 2K14 as part of the soundtrack chosen by LeBron James. In 2019, The song was featured in a Peloton TV commercial, entitled; Our Kind of Joy.
