The Utah Jazz are currently the one seed in the Western Conference at 15-4 and are on an 11 game winning Streak. It is also the longest streak of this young NBA season. Donovan Mitchell has been at the forefront on the offensive end averaging 23.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.9 assists per game on the defensive end it has Derrick Favors.
Despite having the best record in the Western Conference, Mitchell has not been mentioned in any MVP discussions. So, last week before the Jazz took on the Mavericks, I spoke with Jazz head coach Quin Snyder and asked him did he feel that Mitchell should be considered, especially with them being in the top spot in the west.
“I don’t think Donovan [Mitchell] or any of our guys are focused on those things. I can’t speak for Donovan, but I know Donovan, and I know how he thinks, and he is worried about what we are doing, and he can help our team win. I think that is true of our entire group; you don’t disregard any of those things. You are obviously aware on a certain level, but our focus has been on trying to improve both individually and collectively that a goal throughout the year,” said Synder.
“If guys can continue to improve individually, that helps us as a group, and I think we can do those things, our feeling is other things will fall into place. If they don’t, it is what it is, and we continue to try to compete, but I don’t it is an issue for us one way or the other. We are just focused on what we are trying to do.”
On Saturday night, NBA Brandon ‘Scoop B’ asked Shawn Marion on Club House if he felt Donovan Mitchell was an MVP candidate?
He replied, “You know what is crazy about that if they end up with the best record in the league, yep,” said Marion.
Along with Favors, Mitchell had been out for the Jazz lineup the last few games due to health and safety protocol, but that has not stopped the Jazz from winning. Jordan Clarkson has been a big help off the bench, and he deserves some consideration for the Sixth Man of the Year Award this season.
