Lomotor’s new single “Strawberry Super Moon” glows with summer ecstasy

With the music world awash in formulaic beats and recycled hooks, Lomotor steps out of the forest with “Strawberry Super Moon,” a shimmery, hypnotic single that’s the aural equivalent of an invite to some as yet undiscovered midsummer ritual. On this new track, Lomotor creates a soundtrack that is as elemental as it is divine and beckons the listener to a lush renewal and nature’s abundance. What started as an easygoing modular synth experiment eventually put down roots in a much more transcendent place. The heart of “Strawberry Super Moon” is the dirty, quirky little voice of a Mutable Instruments Plaits module, acted upon by shady, gangster-like guitar pedals while under surveillance by juicy twists of reanimated tape on rich, glistening delays.

The result is a swirling sonic stream that feels alive and organic as if the machines are themselves barefoot and swaying in the moonlight. There’s a feeling of movement on the track that can’t be denied. From the opening resonant pulse, you can nearly make out the silhouettes of the dancers assembled on a forested hilltop, the soft earth beneath their feet, the scent of summer blossoms mixing ever so delicately with the cool night air. Lomotor conjures a ritual where the lines between humans and nature blur into blissful union. “Strawberry Super Moon” is unlike much electronic music in that it’s warm and, at times, human.
