Kendrick Lamar, SZA, and ScHoolboy Q are some artists signed to Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE), a well-known record label.
The Allegations
The first plaintiff, who started working at TDE in 2019, alleges that Brandon Tiffith made unwanted sexual advances and committed sexual battery, based on court documents obtained by Complex.
Furthermore, she claims that TDE president Anthony Tiffith Jr., who is the son of label founder Anthony’ Top Dawg’ Tiffith, has consistently engaged in sexual harassment. She claims TDE did not honor her contract and withheld payment for her professional services.
According to the second plaintiff, TDE employees sexually harassed her while she was on the label’s property. In a disturbing incident, she claims to have been coerced to drink alcohol while underage for sexual exploitation.
Legal Action and Damages Sought
Damages are sought by the plaintiffs for emotional distress, economic harm, and violations of their rights under California law. They are seeking punitive damages, citing TDE’s alleged acceptance of the sexual misconduct by its employees. Shounak Dharap, the lawyer representing the two women from Arns Davis Law, stressed the seriousness of the accusations in a press release provided to Complex.
“This lawsuit presents a glaring example of the systemic abuse and exploitation in the entertainment industry,” Dharap stated. “Our clients trusted TDE to act with integrity and professionalism. Instead, their trust was betrayed in profoundly damaging ways. They’re bringing this lawsuit because they refuse to be silenced, and because they intend to hold TDE accountable in court.”
TDE’s Response and Impact
TDE has not yet publicly responded to the allegations. The lawsuit does not name Kendrick Lamar, who left TDE in 2022, or current roster members like SZA and ScHoolboy Q.
This lawsuit adds to the legal challenges major entertainment companies face due to workplace misconduct. The culture within TDE, a label that has long been recognized for its artistic contributions and influence in the music industry, is also being questioned.
What’s Next?
The case is still in progress, and we anticipate updating as the legal process progresses. The plaintiffs’ decision to come forward is a demonstration of the ongoing struggle for accountability in the entertainment industry, particularly for women who are subjected to systematic exploitation and harassment.
