Lil Wayne is expected to release a diss track aimed at Kendrick Lamar within the next 24-48 hours, industry source shared with LandonBuford.com. Kendrick’s reference to Wayne on the GNX album opener, ‘Wacced Out Murals,’ has led to speculation about this move, which seems to have hit a nerve.
The situation escalated when Wayne allegedly tried to contact Kendrick to clarify the purpose of the lyrics. The incident was discussed by Joe Budden on the most recent episode of The Joe Budden Podcast (Nov.). The call went unanswered, leaving Wayne unsatisfied.
“I’m hearing that somebody picked up the phone and tried to call and see what the energy was,” Budden shared. “I’m hearing that Kendrick didn’t answer. If I’m calling you rapper to rapper and you don’t answer…”
According to Budden, Wayne went straight to the recording booth and seemed to use the unanswered call as motivation for a possible diss record.
“You have until I get in that booth to hit me back,” Budden continued. “I’m hearing that Wayne went in the booth.”
Kendrick’s Verse Sparks Controversy
Kendrick’s line, “Used to bump Tha Carter III, I held my Rollie chain proud/ Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down,” It seems like he’s pondering Wayne’s influence on his early career, and hinting that his success may have disappointed the legendary rapper.
Wayne swiftly commented on the lyric on Twitter, expressing disappointment.
“Man wtf I do?! I just be chillin & dey still kome 4 my head. Let’s not take kindness for weakness. Let this giant sleep. I beg u all. No one really wants destruction, not even me but I shall destroy if disturbed. On me. Love,” Wayne tweeted on Nov. 23.
Tensions Over Super Bowl Halftime Show
It’s possible that the NFL’s decision to have Kendrick headline the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show in Wayne’s hometown, New Orleans, is why the two artists are at odds. Wayne was reported to feel overlooked by the announcement.
“That hurt. It hurt a lot,” Wayne said at the time. “I thought that was nothing better than that spot and that stage and that platform in my city, so it hurt. It hurt a whole lot.”
Fans Await Potential Diss Track
Fans are ready for a musical showdown as speculation intensifies and Joe Budden’s comments fuel the fire. While neither Lil Wayne nor Kendrick Lamar have officially commented on the rumors of diss tracks, the hip-hop community is on high alert for Weezy’s response.
