Charles Oakley Slapped Tyrone Hill Like Charlie Murphy In Dave Chappelle Show, Says NBA Champion
Ever since entering the NBA in 1985, Charles Oakley has been known as Michael Jordan’s enforcer. Also one of those players that you just didn’t want to get into a fight on the court or off it. God forbid that you owe this man some money, which, according to his former Washington Wizard teammate Brendan Haywood, did not go too well for Jeff McInnis. The altercation with McInnis cost Oakley $15,000 and a three game suspension.
Another incident involved 76ers power forward Tyrone Hill, according to Haywood. Haywood was in college at UNC at the time, when saw Oakley slap Hill.
“I saw Oakley slap Tyrone Hill when I was in college. When I was in college, he slapped him in the face like Charlie Murphy in the Dave Chappelle Show. So, I know Oakley don’t play. Especially if you owe him money or with any type of disrespect, I have seen it in college,” said Haywood.
” I was in college at UNC, and the Raptors played the 76ers in a preseason game. Oakley walk past everyone on the 76ers team, and they were like chill out Oak. That next thing you they part ways like the Red Sea. I don’t what he said, but let them know he meant business and walked over to Tyrone Hill with his finger pointed. When Tyrone pushed Oak’s finger out of the way, he slapped the fire out of him.”
In 2011, Oakley was a guest on ESPN’s Highly Questionable and was asked if slapping Tyrone Hill was personal?
“It wasn’t personal, sometimes you beat your kids, but you love them still,” said Oakley.
“Every time we play each other Oakley says something about Hill,” Philadelphia’s Eric Snow said. “He’ll say ‘Where’s Hill at?”‘
Oakley’s coach at the time, Lenny Wilkens was not happy with Oakley, because it hurts the team.
“I’m very disappointed and very upset,” Toronto coach Lenny Wilkens said. “I’m not going to display it so you can write about it.”The timing is all bad. It’s not good judgment on Oakley’s part. It hurts the team and him.”
Oakley played 18 seasons in the NBA, averaging 9.7 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists.
