Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf is just a freakish athlete. He makes everything on the football field look routine, including a one-handed catch in pre-game warm-ups.
Metcalf already has 36 catches, 680 yards, and seven TDs through seven games this season, and the Seahawks are excelling. Seattle is currently leading the National League with 34.3 points per game.
Seahawks great and CBS analyst Nate Burleson believes Metcalf can be the best wide receiver in the league.
“DK discovered his superpowers at the end of his rookie season, and he picked up where he left off. And for me, it’s going to be sooner or later where DK, hands down, is the best wide receiver in the business. And this is not any disrespect to DeAndre Hopkins, but DK is faster than him,” said Burleson.
“This isn’t any disrespect to Michael Thomas, Davante Adams; DK might be stronger than those guys. Those are sleek and slim-wide receivers that are fast and great route runners. What happens when DK Metcalf, who is unbelievably strong start running routes like that best route runners in football? That’s when it gets scary.”
“When I watch him I just look at how good he looks from a physical standpoint, but when I look at he transitioned from his rookie year to his sophomore season. You really have to commend him for what he has been working on.”
According to Moss, the route that Metcalf and Wilson have been working on is the comeback route. Last week against the San Francisco 49ers, Metcalf caught a dig route and was able to turn it upfield.
“You are talking about a guy that was able to make a big jump from his first year to his next,” s aid Moss.
Per Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, Metcalf went to a team with a Hall of Famer quarterback [Russell Wilson].
“For a wide receiver you can get open on every play, but if your quarterback can’t get you the ball, then what do you have to show for it. So, what I think that is so special about what they have going on [in Seattle] is that relationship with Russell Wilson and DK [Metcalf],” said Hasselbeck.
“Sometimes you come in and you are real tight with the guys like your own gear. And there is an age gap here between Russell Wilson and DK, but seemingly there on the same page. Russell also has the relationship with [Tyler] Lockett. I just think there is something special with that chemistry. The max speed that the Seahawks wide receivers hit on their deep balls is number one in the NFL. Size yes, but do not forget about that speed as well. DK is one of them, and he can fly.”
