Luka Doncic Doesn’t Care About Stats, Only Winning a Championship, Says Rick Carlisle

Earlier this week, Mavericks All-Star Luka Doncic became the youngest player in league history to record a 30-point, 20-rebound triple-double during Tuesday’s game against the Sacramento Kings, Surpassing Oscar Robertson’s record in 2 years and 146 days less. The Mavericks ended their two-game losing streak in the bubble, beating the Kings 114-110.
Doncic recorded a 34-point, 20-rebound, 12-assist triple-double and completed his league-leading triple-double with a basket to take the lead at the 1:57 mark in overtime.
On Wednesday’s episode of The Jump, Kendrick Perkins compared him to Magic Johnson and LeBron James.
“Listen were are talking about one of the greatest 20 year old to ever play the game of basketball right? What he is doing is right now, is on Magic Johnson and LeBron James’ level, and his court vision is phenomenal,” said Perkins. “One of the best in the league those numbers that he put of yesterday [Tuesday], Jesus Christ Luka. He is on a tear right now.”
Before the Mavericks game on Thursday, Rick Carlisle shared that Doncic wants to win a championship and doesn’t care about stats. When asked about the comparison to Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, and Robertson.

“I think Luka’s number one goal is to win and be an NBA champion. He was talking time and time again about the fact that he doesn’t care about stats. He is really into winning. So, I have said for many years when it comes to players like Luka, we got Seth Curry, then everyone wants to talk about comparing him and Steph [Curry]. I don’t like going there. I think Luka Doncic is one of the unique players,” said Carlisle.
“Really young players in the game’s history are very much his own man and style of play. That is something that should be celebrated. I don’t like putting a lot of demands on young players with comparisons and then comparing stats. That should be relevant; what should be relevant that he continues to work to redefine his game, which he has been doing each of these two years.”
