Warriors’ Steph Curry Explains What Other Athletes Can Do To Push WNBA Forward

Last week, members of both the NBA and WNBA teamed up and auctioned off game-worn items to help raise money for Daunte Wright’s family.

Wright was killed by police in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, during a traffic stop on April 11th. The incident happened not too far from where ex-officer Derek Chauvin’s trial was located. According to Bleacher Report’s Paul Kasabian, as of 5:45 p.m. ET on April 16th, the GoFundMe page was at $844,000 had been raised.

“All funds raised through this site will go towards covering funeral and burial expenses, mental health and grief counseling for Daunte’s family, to help the Wright family in their fight for justice, and to provide support for [the] family, 100 percent of the funds raised on this site will go to the Wright family.”

Warriors All-Star Steph Curry was asked how can athletes as a whole help push the WNBA forward.

“They are very consistent with their stance on social justice, racial justice, and any issue they are passionate about. Collective energy amongst all the athletes, and we can all find ways to collaborate. Combine our worlds, reach, our resources to do [some] special things off the court. Impacting things going forward.”

He also talked about the CarMax commercial featuring him and WNBA legend, Sue Bird made its debut three weeks ago. The three-time champion shared why he decided to collaborate with the future Hall of Famer.

“The CarMax thing with Sue [Bird] was a special fun opportunity to shout her out for all her successes and accolades & what she has done in her career,” Curry said.

The WNBA is entering its 25th anniversary as a league later this summer. The buzz around the league heading into the season is a sight to see. The new designs of the Nike Rebel Edition jerseys for this season have social media platforms like Twitter is buzzing.
