Prescott will be out for a few weeks after suffering a hand injury that required surgery.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones declared Sunday night after his team lost 19-3 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. ESPN’s Todd Archer later reported Prescott would miss 6-8 weeks. He had multiple reports of surgery on Monday.
“Dak Prescott is expected to have surgery Monday on a right thumb injury and miss 6-8 weeks, according to multiple sources. He will meet with the team’s hand specialist on Monday, but sources said he will have a pin and plate inserted to stabilize the joint.”
Also, after the game, Prescott addressed his injury with the media, “Yeah, it obviously isn’t what you want to hear. It’s not the worst thing that’s happened to me.”
“It’s just another bump in the road, and I’ll keep moving forward. I’ll do everything that I can, that I can control, to get myself back, to get myself better, help this team and be the best I can in this role.”
Prescott also missed 11 games in 2020 with a compound fracture and dislocation in the right ankle.
On Monday afternoon, I spoke with an NFL Source, and the individual shared, that the Dallas Cowboys should cut Prescott this season.
“The Dallas Cowboys should get rid of Dak Prescott; he’s terrible. The franchise is on the same tier as the New York Knicks. Valued high, their performance over the last 20 years is like an expansion franchise,” said The Source.
Prescott just signed a four-year deal for $160 million; the contract is worth $164 million if you were to meet his incentives. The deal has $126 million in guarantees, which includes a record $95 million from the NFL at the time of signing. According to CBS Sports, this consists of a $66 million signing bonus for Prescott.
Per spotrac.com, If the Cowboys wanted to entertain potentially cutting their quarterback, it would be a $19,730,000 cap hit this season. Meanwhile, it will bloom next season into a $50 million hit.
