Born Aubrey Graham musician “Drake” performed in an unorthodox performance at one of New York’s greatest theaters. Since opening its doors in 1914 and introducing the first Amateur Night contests in 1934, the Apollo has played a major role in the emergence of jazz, swing, bebop, R&B, gospel, blues, and soul — all quintessentially American music genres. The show began with Drake seated on the edge of a militant-made bed, and a dim tulip-shaped lamp stands in the corner of the stage, designed to be a mirror of the teenage bedroom where he wrote his first songs.

The show certainly did not disappoint, as it was a packed-out theater. We’re seated together to watch the timeline of Drake’s life. According to TMZ, Drake was supposed to perform at the Apollo back in November, but he postponed it because he was mourning the death of Takeoff.

It was rescheduled for December 6th and 7th, but that had to be pushed because of production issues. Presented by Sirius XM after the show, Drake “I wanted to make this a show about gratitude. This was a little story that we put together, my deep love for my family, for my dear friends, and for each and every one of you that have been supporting me for a long time,” he said. “We don’t need to say how long, it’s gonna make it sound like we’re all getting old.”

“I wanted to express how deeply grateful we are to be in this position,” Drake said. “I’ve done a lot of reflecting the last few years, really realizing the type of lightning strike that this run has been. And it’s really got kind of something to do with me, but it’s got everything to do with us, because I just feel like we’ve been relating to each other for so long.”

During the exit of a phenomenal show that had many A-List Celebrities step out from names like Kevin Durant, Odell Beckham Jr., Justin and Hailey Bieber, A$AP Ferg. There was a heavy NYPD police presence outside the venue. Officers could be seen videotaping everyone who exited the doors. Many people are speculating and jumping to conclusions on why we’re they tapping attendees.
