Loveland Colorado Police Officer Fired After Being Violated By Woman [Watch]

In a disturbing incident that unfolded in Loveland, Colorado, a police officer found himself at the center of controversy after allegedly punching a handcuffed woman who had spat at him in a hospital examination room. The Loveland Police Department released body-camera footage of the May 20 incident, which showed the events leading up to the altercation.

The video begins with Officer Russell Maranto escorting the woman, identified as Angelia Hall, to a chair. Frustration and anger emanate from Hall as she directs a barrage of profanities and derogatory language toward Officer Maranto, referring to him as a “piece of s—.” Tensions escalate when Maranto takes a piece of paper from her hand, prompting her to demand its return vehemently.

Hall’s frustration reaches its peak, and she spits toward the floor while continuing to demand the paper. The situation quickly escalates when she spits at Officer Maranto. In response, Maranto strikes Hall in the face, prompting another officer to intervene and separate the two. Hall screams for video evidence of the alleged assault, claiming she was unable to fight back due to her handcuffed state.

Loveland Police Chief Tim Doran addressed the incident in a video statement, commending the second officer for stepping in and emphasizing that inappropriate conduct would never be tolerated or downplayed by the department. He acknowledged that the officers had faced excessive profanity and racial slurs during the encounter and stressed the importance of holding public servants to a high standard of behavior.

The district attorney’s office is currently reviewing the case and considering potential criminal charges against Officer Maranto, while Hall herself has been charged with third-degree assault. Maranto had been with the Loveland Police Department for less than a year at the time of the incident. It remains unknown whether he has legal representation, and the police union has not yet commented on the matter.

This incident adds to the controversy surrounding the Loveland Police Department, as it comes on the heels of another incident in 2020 involving an officer injuring an elderly woman with dementia during an arrest. Officer Austin Hopp, involved in the previous incident, pled guilty to charges related to the arrest and received a five-year prison sentence.

The Loveland community is left grappling with yet another incident of alleged police misconduct, raising concerns about the use of force and the need for greater accountability within law enforcement. Authorities and community leaders are now faced with the task of addressing these issues head-on and working towards rebuilding trust and ensuring that such incidents are thoroughly investigated and appropriately dealt with.
