Free agent point guard Kemba Walker averaged career highs across the board 25.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 43.4 from the field, and 84.4 from the free-throw line. Those numbers were good enough to earn him his third All-star appearance in a Hornets uniform this past season.

We are only three days away from the opening of free agency, and according to ESPN’s NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Boston Celtics are the front runners to sign the three-time All-star this summer.

The Charlotte Hornets have the option to offer Walker more money with a five-year max deal, but according to Woj, league sources have informed him that Hornets Chairman Michael Jordan is no longer willing to pay luxury tax penalties to keep his All-Star in Charlotte. However, the Boston Celtics are slated to meet with Walker and his representation as soon as free agency begins on Sunday at 6 p.m. ET. It has been suggested that the Celtics will offer Walker a four-year deal worth $141 million the maximum that they can provide under the current CBA. Per Woj league sources have also shared with him Walker is interested in signing the contract offer.

Earlier this year, I spoke with Walker about how players should approach the free agency period and how he would handle it. The three-time All-Star said they should do what is best from them.

Do what is best for them that is really it. It is all about the player. It all about their situation for me personally it about my situation.

Normous sources around the NBA have stated that Walker will Boston’s number one target to replace former champion Kyrie, who is expected to leave in free agency this summer. If Walker indeed does sign with Boston, he would be playing not that far from U Conn, where he won a National Champion in 2011.
