I’m A Browns Fan Now, Says Spurs Guard DeMar DeRozan

The New York Giants sent shockwaves through the NFL as they traded Odell Beckham Jr Tuesday afternoon. The Giants sent the one-handed catch specialist and LSU Tiger to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for first- and third-round picks and safety Jabrill Peppers. Per ESPN, Beckham had 77 receptions, 1052 yards, and six touchdowns this past season. The Giants failed to make the playoffs, finishing with a 5-11 record.  In October, Beckham sat down with ESPN’s Josina Anderson to discuss his frustration with the offensive scheme. The Giants focused on executing short passes and expecting receivers to take the ball the length of the field. Instead of taking shots downfield and allowing Giants receivers to make a play, he is taking a shot at his quarterback Eli Manning.

“I don’t know,” Beckham said when he was asked if there was an issue at quarterback. “As I said, I feel like he’s not going to get out the pocket. He’s not — we know Eli’s not running it. But is it a matter of time issue? Can he still throw it, yeah, but it’s been pretty safe, and it’s been, you know … cool catching shallow [routes] and trying to take it to the house. But I’m, you know, I want to go over the top of somebody.”

Manning would respond to Beckham “that he doesn’t watch Lil Wayne a lot, and it was big for Odell to set the record straight with the team.”

You can’t criticize your quarterback in the NFL if you expect to last in the league. It is the most critical position, and the Giants elected to move on from Beckham.

Tuesday night, the San Antonio Spurs were in Dallas to face the Dallas Mavericks, which saw the Spurs beat the Mavs 112-105. After the game, DeMar DeRozan spoke to the press and during the media scrum. He was asked to share his thoughts on Beckham being traded to the Browns.

“I’m a Browns fan now,” DeRozan told me.

DeRozan finished the game with 33 points, six assists, and four rebounds.
