Lil CC couldn’t believe her ears when she received the news that Drake wanted to buy her beat. She had been producing music for a few years but had never had a placement as big as this one. She had sent the beat to Drake’s team, not expecting much to come of it, but to her surprise, they loved it and wanted to use it for his upcoming album.
“My first beat was ‘Money in the Grave,’ I think it was $20,000,” she said. “It was crazy, I was like, ‘I fuck with this n***a.’ I was like, ‘Wow.’ Just knowing someone believed in me that much and supported what I did… [It] made me want to go even harder.”
“I was modeling for Missguided in England, and I was in the changing room when I was listening to it,” she said. “I was like, ‘What the fuck?!’ … I was so happy to shoot the rest of that day I was smiling in every picture, I couldn’t stop smiling. I remember there was one other model, there she barely spoke English, but she knew who Drake was and she was the first person that I told. … I’m, like, barely trying to talk to this girl and she could understand me a little bit.”
The young producer was ecstatic, not just because of the money, but because of the validation it brought. It was a sign that her hard work was finally paying off, and that she was on the right track. She had always believed in her abilities as a producer, but having someone like Drake, one of the biggest names in music, believe in her too was an incredible feeling.
As “Money In The Grave” became a huge hit and Lil CC’s name started circulating in the music industry, she realized that this was just the beginning. She continued to work hard, producing for other artists and building her own brand as a model and influencer. She even started her own record label, CC Records, with the goal of giving other up-and-coming artists the same opportunities that she had been given.
Looking back on that moment when Drake bought her beat, Lil CC knows that it was a turning point in her career. It was the moment when she realized that anything was possible if she put in the work and believed in herself. She is grateful for the experience and excited to see what the future holds.
