The Hype Magazine had the opportunity to speak with Denver Broncos Linebacker Brandon Marshall about his expectations for the 2017 NFL season. We also dive into how instrumental he has been in helping his brother Marcus Marshall in pursuing his dreams in the music industry.
Finally, Marshall discusses some of the artists that he listens to before taking the field on game days and some of the improvements he has seen from Broncos Quarterback Trevor Siemian this past off-season.
What are some of your expectations for this upcoming season?
For myself, I want to make the Pro-Bowl and dominate on the defensive side of the ball. As a team, my expectations are to get back to the playoffs and be a championship contender. Last year we had a down year after winning the Super Bowl and I’m looking forward to winning more games this upcoming season.
Can you share some of your thoughts on Trevor Siemian progression this past offseason?
Trevor has looked amazing this past offseason and I have always had confidence in him as a quarterback since his rookie season. He has shown his confidence, his poise, as he performed well against the Los Angeles Chargers and the Dallas Cowboys. I am a huge fan of Trevor Siemian and he has the support of the whole locker room.
You have been very instrumental in your support of your brother as he pursues his dream as an R&B artist. How has his single “Changes” inspired you on the football field?
I have decided to start my own label to help my brother fulfill his dream as an artist because I am living mine as a professional athlete. I feel God has blessed me with the means to help my family with being able to sign my second contract in the NFL. It is not just about me as an individual it’s about my family as well, and I would not be where I am today without their sacrifices. So, it inspires me to keep going and being able to perform at the best of my abilities. I want my brother and me to be successful and to see both of us being able to pursue our dreams is exciting.
What is some other motivational music that you use to get ready to play on Sundays?
Drake, Future, 21 Savage, and Kodak Black.
Last year you lost a couple of endorsements because of your silent protest of kneeling during the national anthem. When you partner with some of these brands how important is their mission statement to you?
It is extremely important for me when I’m partnering with a company or a brand that they follow their mission statement. If they cannot follow their mission statement behind closed doors than how do they expect others to support their company or brand by buying their products.
Do you have any business ambitions outside of the entertainment business?
Now, I am currently in the process of opening a store in Atlanta called “Zarur Boutique” with my friend and business associate Celebrity Stylist Jojo Zarur. She is also a cast member of Love and Hip-Hop Miami that will premiere sometime next year.
“Before the play,” said Marshall, still mystified how Brady could have such open contempt of his pass-coverage skills. “He didn’t read the defense. He just said: ‘You’ve got 54. Get open.” MARK KISZLA What do you plan on saying to him when you get the chance?
If I get the chance to talk to Tom Brady I will probably bring it up, but honestly, I am not really upset with him because of my other teammates on defense. During that point in the game, the Patriots were behind in the game and needed yards to continue the drive. So, I guess he was trying to find a weak link and he was under the impression that was me and I’m not mad at him for it. We are all competitors at the end of the day, but if I get the chance to talk to him I will take the opportunity.
