Team Roc, the social justice division of Roc Nation, is taking a daring step into podcasting with the launch of Corruption Uncovered, according to Variety.

The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department’s systemic misconduct is revealed in a true crime series. The podcast premieres on December 6, a significant date coinciding with the trial of former KCKPD detective Roger Golubski, who faces federal charges for abusing his authority.

Under Golubski’s tenure, the series, hosted by Josie Duffy Rice, explores decades of alleged corruption, racism, and abuse. Survivors, families affected by police misconduct, and activists fighting for accountability will be featured in gripping interviews on the podcast.

Dania Diaz, the managing director of Team Roc, highlighted the significance of telling stories to highlight marginalized communities in a statement.

“There is a need for powerful and comprehensive storytelling in the criminal justice sector so that the voices of those who have been silenced are heard,” Team Roc managing director Dania Diaz said. “Our hope is for ‘Corruption Uncovered’ to not only achieve that purpose, but also to serve as an investigative platform that will expose misconduct, demand accountability and drive change from the people and systems that are duty bound to protect its citizens and community.”

Corruption Uncovered is produced by Pineapple Street Studios, who are known for producing compelling audio narratives, and promises to be both a shocking expose of unchecked power and a platform for those who have been silenced for a long time.

Team Roc’s ongoing advocacy work is reflected in the podcast’s release. The organization has supported lawsuits and investigations in recent years to bring Golubski and others within the KCKPD to justice.

Golubski, who retired in 2016, has been charged with utilizing his position to sexually abuse women, many of whom were already vulnerable because of poverty or legal troubles. The broader discussion about systemic issues within law enforcement has centered around his trial.

The initial episode provides listeners with a harrowing yet essential glimpse into the lives of those affected by these abuses, emphasizing the urgent need for accountability and reform.

As true crime podcasts continue to captivate audiences, Corruption Uncovered stands out by not only exploring criminal acts but also calling for action against systemic injustice. Team Roc’s mission revolves around using media to promote societal change while emphasizing the impact of inequality on those most impacted.

The premiere on December 6 can be viewed by listeners on major podcast platforms. If you’re looking for more than just a story and want justice, this episode is a must-see.
